Greenbriar Estates is basically Preston Hollow in Duncanville but surrounded by nature, and we’ve found the sweetest spot in this neighborhood.

Nestled into Tenmile Creek Preserve, this Duncanville cottage backs up to one of the creek’s tributaries and is just minutes from Joe Pool Lake, Cedar Hill State Park, and Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center.

Los Angeles-based Judith Winchester had a busy career in corporate brand development, visual merchandising, and store design that included constant travel. When it was time for a change, she landed in Dallas and launched into a second career in residential interior design.

While living in East Dallas, her life changed when she acquired a couple of furry friends. A yard became a necessity, so the search for a new house began. When this Duncanville cottage hit her radar, the hunt was instantly over.

“I was enchanted with it, and when I realized I could be in the Design District in 18 minutes without traffic, I was sold,” Winchester said.

She took possession in 2017, named her home Crescent Cottage (because every home needs to be honored with a name), and began to make it her own. Although Winchester will tell you she designed her 2,680-square-foot four-bedroom, three-bathroom home to simply function well, remember, we are talking about a brilliant interior designer here. So, of course, it functions like a dream, but it’s also beautiful.

The custom steel front door gives you a sense of what to expect, allowing a sneak peek into the main dining and living areas. White oak floors run throughout the house, and of course, designers always pick the perfect light fixtures. Winchester installed vintage Murano and Kelly Wearstler chandeliers. She also installed custom drapery from Colefax & Fowler, Scalamandré, and Cowtan & Tout, and some absolutely gorgeous wallpapers.

While the family room opens to the kitchen and a lovely reading area, the layout still provides a cozy ambiance. Winchester has been able to create that intimate feeling throughout the home because she has done everything with care and intention.

With a large family and many visitors, Winchester entertains a lot. The house accommodates any kind of hosting you want to do, including outside dining.

She ensured outdoor life was as easy and functional as indoor life. There is a saltwater pool, a side terrace, a large deck, and many areas for outdoor entertaining. As if it could not get any better, she has a 224-square-foot detached gym with an infrared sauna.

“This is my sanctuary,” Winchester said. “I can sit out by the pool, have my coffee, and hear nothing but birds and the creek. It’s truly like a nature sanctuary here.”
