Dallas Election Day 2024 Live Updates

Though Dallas County Elections website problems slowed the flow of hourly updates as promised, final results were posted early Wednesday morning, showing voters approved 15 of 17 city charter amendments, including a controversial proposal to increase the local police force to 4,000 officers.

Many Dallas residents were keeping an eye on Propositions C (City Council salary increases), R (decriminalization of marijuana), and S, T, and U, a trio of amendments proposed by petition via the nonprofit Dallas HERO organization.

More “for” than “against” votes were tallied for the following Dallas City Charter amendments: Propositions B, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, L, O, P, Q, R, S, and U. Propositions C and T failed.

Here’s a breakdown of how Dallas voters spoke at the polls.

  • No to council salary increases.
  • Yes to decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana.
  • Yes to lawsuits against the city for not complying with the charter.
  • No to the city manager employment survey.
  • Yes to mass Dallas Police hires — a requirement that the Dallas Police Department must increase its force to a total of 4,000 officers.

About 584,656 of Dallas County’s 1.47 million registered voters cast early ballots before Election Day and those results were made public immediately after the polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday. With all precincts reporting early Wednesday, the general turnout was 57.08% or 838,988 total ballots cast.

Shocked Dallas residents voted for non-citizens, who don’t pay property taxes to have a say on how our city is zoned! Get ready to lose your property rights Dallas.

Get ready for a big property tax increase to fund the Police Department hiring even if you cut other City services. Maybe the State of Texas or the tooth fairy will send money to help out.

It was deceptively worded with a double negative. The city had already lost one lawsuit on deceptively wording ballot props, and will probably lose another on this one.
