Blush front door, green shutters and a brass mailbox add up to cute house.

I’m a goner for a white house. But a white house with rocking chairs on the front porch? Stop the car, I’ve got to see inside.

Well, this house on Bluebonnet Drive in Fort Worth is quite the happy surprise inside. Outside, there’s all the charm of a traditional bungalow in an established, even historic neighborhood. White paint, a front porch, and tall trees shading the whole place definitely look good to me.

Inside is even more fun. The seller, interior decorator Brittany Cobb, has touched it with her signature look, one that can’t be categorized. She’s the CEO and founder of Flea Style, which looks like a combo of her California roots, her Texas home, and an innate artistic eye. Her five North Texas stores sell women’s clothing, accessories, and hats. Then there’s Wide Brim, a boutique inside Fort Worth’s swanky Hotel Drover.

“Her style is flea style,” said listing Realtor Carrie Himel with Compass Realty. “It’s a little bit of flea market, a little bit of boho, and a lot of vintage. That’s her style.”

It’s restored with fun and whimsy that’ll make you smile. A blush-colored front door, wallpaper in the bedroom, more wallpaper in the kitchen, and big windows that light it up happy. Of course, the kitchen’s been upgraded with stainless steel appliances, and the important parts like HVAC and plumbing have been updated, too.

“It’s so cute,” Himel said. “And it’s move-in ready.”

The vibe comes courtesy of Cobb who owns this house and her decorating businesses that are catching attention.

Measuring 1,867 square feet, the house contains four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Built in 1940, the residence comes with a wood-burning fireplace and even a basement. The backyard space holds a spot for a picnic table and a firepit, too.

The living room? It’s open to fun, relaxing, and entertaining by the cozy fireplace.

Then there’s the neighborhood to consider. Fort Worth’s Oakhurst holds a Historic District designation on the National Register for Historic Places. In the early 1920s, Fort Worth businessmen John P. King and Henry King developed the neighborhood through their Oakhurst Land Company, Inc. during an oil boom.

The Kings’ touted their “suburban” neighborhood in a promotional brochure, Oakhurst Neighborhood Association, Fort Worth, Texas: Oakhurst History (oakhurstfw.org) reading in part:

“OAKHURST is more than a fine suburb, it is more than a charming place in which to build one’s home…You must visit OAKHURST to fully appreciate it, for it is impossible to adequately describe in words and pictures the surpassing beauty of this newest of Fort Worth’s suburbs.”

Hardly a suburb anymore, Oakhurst is just minutes from downtown Fort Worth. The neighborhood offers the stately trees found in a 100-year-old neighborhood, and certain streets come with a view of downtown’s skyline.

Complimenting the mature trees, the Bluebonnet property’s landscaping has been updated with plants chosen for their drought tolerance. Even with the thoughts to an environmentally sustainable landscape, the outdoor spaces.

A shady yard is always a good idea in Texas.
The Oakhurst neighborhood once was considered a Fort Worth suburb with this view of downtown.

The Oakhurst location puts it close to the Stockyards, and of course, Hotel Droer, should anyone need to pop over for a hat. The house’s list price for its nearly 2,000 square feet is $460,000. The charm is free.

“I think you get all of the history and charm of Oakhurst, and it’s completely updated with the style,” Himel said. “It’s just the cutest little bungalow.”

Realtor Carrie Himel with Compass Realty has listed 1409 Bluebonnet Drive for $460,000.
