3 Things Home Inspectors Want You To Know
Share News:

When you see the same things in houses over and over again, you start to wonder why everybody doesn’t know what you know. What are they, stupid? That’s a word we’re not allowed to use in my house. I tell my girls (who are 6 and 8) that the answer is only easy if you already know. And I told the inspectors the same thing. Homeowners aren’t stupid, they’re just not home inspectors. So what do you want them to know?
Here are three things home inspectors want you to know:
Even New Homes Have Problems
Many people think when they buy a new construction home that they can skip the home inspection. Everything is new; there’s nothing to fix, right? Wrong! As Inspector Brian points out in the video, even new homes need an inspection. Builders make mistakes, and new homes haven’t been lived in and tested to find out if everything works properly, so you need an inspector to test all the home’s systems to ensure that nothing will go wrong when you move in.
Just Because They Say The House Is Ready, Doesn’t Mean It Is
Always take advantage of your option period and investigate the house with a home inspection, and any other professionals you may need to call in to find out what you need to know about the home you’re purchasing. As Inspector Cody mentions, the clients were told the house was “move-in ready,” yet this is what they found when he arrived for the inspection. If you’re building a new home, be sure to have a home inspection before the final walk-through with the builder so you can catch the last details.
Safety First
People have the best intentions when they embark on DIY projects like this one, but they often don’t get enough information to do the job correctly and end up with a safety hazard. If you aspire to be the next DIY HGTV star, but you can’t bother reading the instructions or watching the entire YouTube video, then just put down the hammer and call a professional. Uncovering these little projects is just one of the benefits of having a home inspection.
These are just three things home inspectors want you to know. If you want to know more, come back every Saturday for Upon Closer Inspection.
