Yes, contemporary. I stubbornly refuse to call anything built after 1970 “midcentury.” And really what does it matter when the house is as appealing as 5300 Benbridge Drive. Built in 1975, the 2,910-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bath house sits on a beautiful corner lot in Northcrest. If you aren’t familiar with the area, it is located in the Crestline area next to Westover Hills in Fort Worth, replete with attractive dwellings of similar vintage.

The design of the façade is asymmetrical but balanced. Two blocks conjoined by a slanted roof are anchored at either side by retreating wings at their sides. An elongated pentagonal window group at front is echoed by a near identical door arrangement at the covered entrance.

The interior is arranged in what I have come to call a semi-open concept favored by many for family-friendly living and relaxed easy entertaining. The entry is defined by a light stone floor with an office space at front to the right. Floors in the rest of the residence are mostly oak with carpet in the bedrooms.

The living/dining room area centers on a wood-burning fireplace and bar with a wine fridge at one end and the kitchen with an island bar at the other.

The recently renovated kitchen features new cabinetry, quartzite countertops, and new stainless appliances including a fine Thermador dual fuel range.

The primary suite includes a bath also recently updated with a large shower stall and vanity with twin sinks.

Another spacious room currently used as an office could be converted into a fourth bedroom. In general, the floor plan of the home offers great flexibility.

A tiled garden room leads to the beautiful back garden which has a shaded dining terrace and a period-correct organic-shaped pool. At the side is a lush garden planted with native sages and cannas, ubiquitous in the 1950s through 1970s happily enjoying a robust revival.

The deep corner lot allows for a two-car garage placement tastefully located at the side.

Katie Roberts of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s Fort Worth has priced 5300 Benbridge Drive at $949,000.
