This Historic Trinity Heights Craftsman Bungalow Under $400K Is Waiting for You

Shut the front door! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this Instagram-worthy Trinity Heights Craftsman bungalow. One, because it is so adorable, and two, did you see the headline? It’s under $400,000.
This has to be the hottest deal of the month. This Trinity Heights Craftsman bungalow is located a mere block from Beckley Club Estates and five minutes from the Dallas Zoo. You can be on IH-35 in seconds, meaning your access to Downtown Dallas is practically instantaneous. When the Southern Gateway Deck Park is finished, expect your value to double on this bungalow.

Trinity Heights is gaining a lot of attention, which I believe can be attributed to the popularity of Beckley Club Estates and the new Brentwood Trinity Heights multi-family housing development. The area’s historic homes are being preserved by a new generation of buyers, which helps to maintain the cultural richness of Oak Cliff.
When the current owner purchased this Trinity Heights Craftsman bungalow, it had been a rental property for several decades. He was looking for a project, and this one fit the bill beautifully.
“The entire interior was wood-paneled, and there were plant hooks in every single room spaced three feet apart,” Dave Perry-Miller InTown listing agent Bill Farrell said. “But it was a great size and price for him.”

“The topography stands out,” Farrell said. “It’s very hilly here, and several creeks run through the neighborhood, which is unusual. There is a large canopy of old-growth trees in this neighborhood that are so beautiful.”

Then we add to the mix the neighborhood bird in Beckley Club Estates and Trinity Heights: a peacock! There is neighborhood lore that they escaped from the Dallas Zoo, but that’s unfounded. An African stork did escape and come over for a visit, but it was quickly returned.
The most accepted story is that in the 1960s, a family in Beckley Club Estates owned exotic birds. Somehow, they got loose and decided to stay.
“We start to see the pea chicks running around this time of year, and during mating season, it’s not unusual to see a peacock stopping traffic to show off his plumage to a peahen.”

If I were looking for my first home, I’d get creative to nab this one. Think outside the box. You can do what is becoming increasingly popular and purchase with a friend or family member, or take on a renter and offset your mortgage, just like homeowners did a hundred years ago. Historic preservation offers many lessons, but who knew it could offer us a lesson in home buying?
