’70s Decor in This Cali MCM Leads to a Tale of Disappointment

Children can bring the greatest joy to our lives. They can also bring the greatest disappointment. Up until this last week I had only ever experienced joy with our daughter. After this week, though, I think I am simply going to write her out of the will, which is something because she is our heir and spare.

This tale of woe started when I showed her the most incredible Midcentury Modern home located in Beverly Hills. You see, our girl is moving to Los Angeles this summer. In May she graduated with her Master of Fine Arts from Emerson College and is going to take her shot in the movie business. Allow me to introduce to you Carmen Perez, independent screenwriter and director. If any of you fine people know any Hollywood big dogs, well ring a sister up. I would make a fabulous nepo parent while my husband just wants unrestricted access to the craft services table. I digress.

When she made the decision to move, she asked if we would help find her a place. It did not take long for me to find this three-bedroom, three-bathroom home with views all the way to the Pacific. Located at 1470 Laurel Way, Beverly Hills, California, this masterpiece is 3,163 square feet in size. The owners are asking $9.5 million. The best part is that it is move-in ready.

Carmen’s reaction: “What am I even looking at here?”
My reaction: People are paying a lot of money for exposed beams. You get the same effect only with wallpaper on the ceiling. Win-win baby!

The conversation only devolved from there.

Carmen’s reaction: “This room is like a bad trip. Why is the carpet also on the wall? What is going on here?”
My reaction: Yeah man, we got carpeting on the floor and the wall. The ‘70s broke all the rules.

Carmen’s reaction: “Why does there have to be a pattern for everything?”
My reaction: Purple is the color of royalty!

Carmen’s Reaction: “Everything in the red room is weirdly fuzzy. This is some 50 Shades of Gray action going on here where everything gets really sticky really fast.”
My Reaction: Yes, I couldn’t agree more. This room — and anyone who steps inside — will need to be thoroughly disinfected.

Carmen’s reaction: “This looks like the hallway from the Overlook Hotel. Momma, the ‘70s were arguably one of the worst decades style-wise. There was just too much going on. The ‘70s were bad Momma. Bad.”
My reaction: You are out of the will.

Haha, this house is…a lot, but also cool. I think the kitchen is my favorite though.
I loved it. A true blast from the past. Thank you so much for the read. Have a great Thursday.
I love the house. It definitely has that California cool feel. Thank you for the read. Have a great weekend.
I eagerly await your next article, Mimi Perez!
Thank you so much. I’m glad you enjoyed the column. Here’s hoping you have a wonderful Friday.
Someone with an appreciation for MCM will snatch this up and return it to what it should be.
Oh I hope so. The description says it is a good lot to knock down and rebuild and I think that would be a crime. Thanks so much for the read. Here’s hoping you have a good weekend.
