The exterior rock is repeated …

The clean lines and sleek look of Midcentury Modern architecture were signatures of prominent Fort Worth architect John Wesley Jones.

John Wesley Jones worked primarily in Fort Worth, Dallas, and San Antonio often on residential properties. He studied at the University of Oklahoma, trained with Manville Irwin, worked for Humber Hammond Crane, and toured Europe to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts.

Impressive, right?

An Accessible John Wesley Jones Design

Owning a home designed by this distinguished architect would be great, too. Probably really expensive, you’re thinking.

Maybe not.

A John Wesley Jones-designed townhome is listed now for $359,900 at 4500 Westridge Ave., apartment 24. This 1,616-square-foot townhome, complete with those clean lines and sleek look is on the market, ready for its next owner. Jones’ expertise and talent left a unique fingerprint on the property, one not often found in the area.

Built in 1960, But Works for 2024

The two-bedroom, three-bathroom, single-story unit was built in 1960 but feels modern.  The rock exterior echoes in the home’s stylish interior on a feature wall. Both bedrooms feature en suite bathrooms. The living room opens to the kitchen, and the floor-to-ceiling windows can open from both the living room and the dining room to allow the private courtyard — again, walled in with rock — to serve as an extension of the living area. The arrangement adds a feeling of roominess by allowing the courtyard to become an outdoor living room.

The adjacent designated dining room could be used as a home office, and the townhome’s storage is generous. The unit, one of just 28, comes with two covered parking spaces.

Keeping cars parked there is an option, too, for anyone who frequents Ridglea Country Club. This townhome backs up to the country club’s golf course, making it within walking distance. The location, just off bustling Camp Bowie Blvd., puts this townhome close to shopping and restaurants.

John Wesley Jones was a fabulous architect. The spaces he designed have a tantalizingly intimate quality – characterized by his mastery of scale, proportion and transparency to the exterior – these spaces have stood the test of time and are still modern and most tellingly – extremely livable now as they were then.

John Wesley Jones, Uncle Wesley to me, (great uncle), was the classiest man I have ever met. Have pictures of him on the Seine walking his Scottish Terrier, McTavish. Anyone would be so blessed to own a part of architectural history! Wish I could be the lucky one. Thank you for the lovely writing for this listing.
