Of Starting Super Bowl QBs, Patrick Mahomes Has The Better Digs

When Super Bowl LVIII is over Sunday and the confetti is swept away, the starting quarterbacks will likely head home for a short break.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a Texan with all kinds of ties to Dallas-Fort Worth, has choices. He will either be going to his off-season home in the gated tony Vaquero section of Westlake. Or, he’ll check in at his main home in Belton, Missouri.

Meanwhile, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has a single choice: He’ll head back to a San Francisco-area apartment that he shares with teammate Nick Zakelj. They split the rent.

Mahomes and Purdy have a Super Bowl in common. But their living arrangements are worlds apart.

Mahomes makes an average annual salary of $52.65 million. Purdy, the final player taken in the 2022 NFL Draft, makes $934,250 — not shabby, but still a struggle in the Bay Area, particularly for a two-bedroom.

Mahomes bought his Missouri home in September 2020, according to Architectural Digest. His 7,884-square-foot Vaquero home cost an LLC connected to Mahomes for $3.37 million, below the listing price of $4.26 million.

Of course, Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, need the space. They have two growing children, and Mahomes requires a big closet. He once owned 180 pairs of shoes and there’s all that swag from State Farm.

Purdy told Today that he’s cool with his housing arrangement with Zakelj. 

“So he and I are still splitting rent,” Purdy said. “Other than that, it’s pretty simple.”

Even though he’s the quarterback, Purdy is the second highest-paid NFL player in the household. Zakelj is scheduled to make $962,000 per season on a four-year contract. At 6-foot-6 and 312 pounds, the offensive lineman is good to have around.

They share grilling duties and chillax by watching movies.

“People joke about having the starting quarterback as your roommate,” Zakelj told NBC Sports Bay Area. “I think it’s funny from the outside.”

They might not last, however. Purdy got engaged to Jenna Brandt over the summer.
