Kevin Ellis says that real estate is his second act, but if we’re really counting, it’s probably his third or fourth.

Ellis is a master of reinvention, who has taken the drive and diligence from his time as both an NCAA track and field All-American and an Olympian and parleyed it into a career in real estate.

“People might be surprised to find out that I’m a United States Olympian in the winter sport of Skeleton,” Ellis told CandysDirt.com. “The more surprising part and first question that people ask is, ‘How did you get involved in a winter sport when you live in Texas?’ The second question is often ‘What is Skeleton?'”

All that to say Ellis is accustomed to hurtling head-first into something he believes in, which is why he recently joined Phillip Murrell’s group at Compass, full-speed ahead.

“I’ve always been impressed with Compass for being top of the industry in technology, marketing, and branding. I felt like the marketing tools available to me would give me more exposure and the best possible opportunity for my clients’ success,” Ellis said. “At the same time that I joined Compass, I joined Phillip Murrell and his team (PMRE) knowing it was a perfect complement of personalities and skill sets.”

Speaking of skill sets, Ellis’ 20-year career as a controller for a high-net-worth Dallas family enabled his ability to spot a good asset investment as well as make the numbers work.

“Real estate is my second act and something I’ve been passionate about for quite a while,” he said. “I managed many of the family business entities and ultimately fine-tuned my skill set to focus on private equity investment and management, financial analysis, and reporting.”

While finding the right home for his clients is paramount, Ellis understands that ‘home’ is more than just a purchase. It’s a community.

“For me, Oak Lawn is home,” he said. “I love to give back, which is another reason why I chose PMRE. They have a true commitment to community service and I’m excited to get plugged in with a team that acts on their passions and gives back to the Dallas community.”

When he’s not netting homes for his clients, Ellis enjoys working on his own home, he said. “I’m always up for a little DIY project.”
