This Colleyville Spanish Revival Estate Will be One Buyer’s Lucky Charm

Spanish Revival

Buying this beauty in Colleyville’s exclusive Montclair Parc neighborhood will bring good luck in 2024 for whoever is fortunate enough to snag it. Why? The second owners of this excellent example of Spanish Revival architecture retained all the original Saltillo tiles, complete with animal footprints. In case you didn’t know, it’s considered good luck to have a tile with paw prints of any animal that happened across the tile during the made-by-hand process. So whoever buys this house will be acquiring some built-in good luck in a luxurious neighborhood.

Even for the unsuperstitious, the authentic Saltillo tiles’ rustic look makes excellent conversation starters because of the unique characteristics acquired as they’re left to dry outside before firing in the kiln. What was not left up to luck was the 1995-built Montclair Parc home’s careful design and its subsequent renovations.

“It was definitely a labor of love for the first owner,” said Dona Robinson, a Realtor and broker with Allie Beth Allman & Associates’ Southlake office. “My owner kept so much of the original beauty but updated it to make it look more current. It’s a Spanish Revival, and it’s beautiful.”

A Wilson Fuqua Spanish Revival

The home’s first owners hired Dallas architect J. Wilson Fuqua, noted for his Spanish Revival homes found in Highland Park. The exterior details make it a showstopper even before setting foot inside. Located on a double lot in the guarded, gated community, this estate features a copper fountain perfectly patinaed to verdigris. Just beyond, the custom iron door is framed by an arched evergreen vine.

“The door is fantastic,” Robinson said of the hand-forged work.

The intricate ironwork of the door is matched by the staircase in the home’s foyer. Even though it’s a two-story, this 6,520-square-foot home contains nearly 5,000 square feet on its first floor. Three of the four bedrooms — all large enough for king beds — are found on the first floor. The lot, measuring almost an acre, allowed the architect to create a sprawling, expansive first floor.

“The lot is just so spectacular,” Robinson said. “The house lives mostly like a one-story, making it perfect for empty nesters or parents who want all their children downstairs. There’s no need to go upstairs unless you want to.”

Also downstairs are two dining areas, a morning room with reclaimed columns from Pennsylvania, a media room and office set up for surround sound, a living room, and a kitchen. Upstairs is a guest suite and a large room, which is used as a home gym but could transition to another use such as a game room or living space.

The current owners completed renovations in 2020 but still retained much of the home’s original qualities. Working with Denise McGaha Interiors, the owners collaborated to preserve the home’s feel and charm.

Updates include new kitchen cabinetry in the same shaker style and new kitchen countertops in a honed quartzite for a durable, matte finish. Marble was installed in the primary bathroom, and all bedrooms were recarpeted. Lighting was switched to LED throughout the house, the plumbing was replaced, and new awnings were added. Those lucky, handmade Mexican tiles, though, remained untouched.

A Massive Montclair Parc Backyard

The home’s centerpiece is its backyard where the massive covered patio sits ready for entertaining. The grilling station’s Wolf grill is flanked by two large outdoor TVs. From there, guests can view the lap pool, recently upgraded by Claffey Pools. Extra seating is available under a pergola, too, with a view of the neighborhood’s canal.

“It’s so relaxing,” Robinson said. “You always have the sound of running water.”

Creature comforts abound at this house, but the owners’ acquisitions haven’t been ignored, either. The property includes a three-car, attached garage and a two-car, detached garage — all temperature controlled, of course, so no one ever must slide into a hot car during Texas summers.

The backyard mimics old Hollywood glamour.

The home will be perfect for some lucky family, the Realtor thinks.

“It’s a gorgeous home, and I know for the right family is going to be spectacular,” Robinson said. “I’ve sold some amazing homes over the years, but this one has so much charm. It reminds me of the homes in the Hollywood Hills or Santa Barbara. It’s just a magical place.”

Built in 1995, this Spanish Revival estate designed by J. Wilson Fuqua, was updated in 2020.

Allie Beth Allman & Associates Realtor Dona Robinson has listed this Spanish Revival Estate at 5500 Miramar Lane in Colleyville for $2.989 million.
