Home Buying Includes Much to Consider, Especially Where to Put Your Christmas Trees

Christmas Tree
You can easily see how your Christmas trees and other holiday decor work in these open houses.

Buying a house comes with a lot to consider, such as how many bedrooms, how long is the work commute, what’s the neighborhood vibe, and where will the antique armoire go.

Then for a lot of people who are practical, there’s another big consideration: just where will the Christmas tree go? No one wants to knock it over so finding a cozy corner, away from normal foot traffic, is super important. But it might need to be in a very prominent spot so the family can enjoy it as much as possible. Maybe it should be in the foyer, so guests will see it first as they enter and the last memory as they leave. Then there is living in the house on the block where the tree’s twinkling lights can be seen from the outside.

Pondering just where to put the tree — or trees! — to achieve the maximum effect in Christmas décor certainly needs a spot on the house-buying checklist right after price and location. So, this week’s CandysDirt.com featured open houses will focus on the December question of just where the Christmas tree should be placed. It’s important, don’t you think?

6739 Meadow Road, Dallas

Picture this: guests enter through double doors to be greeted by the vision of a beautiful Christmas tree in the foyer. Not only a tree, but a cascading staircase festooned with garlands of greenery tied with festive bows will dazzle them.

Swap out the piano for a Christmas tree and add garland to the stairs’ banister and the foyer would be holiday-ready.

That could be the plan for this 6,176-square-foot Preston Hollow home, listed at $2.39 million. With five bedrooms and five bathrooms, the home has space for children in three bedrooms upstairs, the owners downstairs, and visiting grandparents downstairs, too.

The primary bedroom, complete with a sitting area and fireplace, could be a spot for a secondary tree. The family room’s windows might be another great place for a tree since it would be within sight of the fireplace and the kitchen. The backyard with its heated spa, fire pit, and pizza oven just begs for a tree, too. The more the merrier goes for entertaining guests and Christmas trees.

Preston Hollow is the location for this home with plenty of tree placing opportunities.
Placing the tree in front of these family room windows would mean the family could see the tree while cooking dinner.

This house, listed by Michele Balady Beach with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, will be held open from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

1403 Oak Knoll, Colleyville

The tree-lined street leads to the cul-de-sac where this house, built in 2002 and priced at $2,250,000, sits on three-quarters of an acre on a wooded lot. A Christmas tree outside here could be understated and blend into this Colleyville neighborhood of houses on large, highly treed lots.

Trees dot the lawn of this Colleyville home, but there are still several spots for trees inside.

A dazzling tree certainly could shine in the great room, along the wall of windows. This open floor plan makes this another house where a tree could be enjoyed while eating breakfast or cooking dinner. In fact, in the remodeled kitchen, the island is large enough for an entire family. Conveniently, the kitchen is adjacent to the wine room — easy access for the owners who could entertain there near the Christmas tree.

There are other spots within this home’s 4,750 square feet that would be great for a tree. The dramatic foyer outfitted with a giant tree would make an impressive first impression on guests. Bedrooms are great places for smaller trees, and this house has five bedrooms to cozy up in.

Upstairs, a balcony opens to the backyard and would also be a fun spot for an outdoor Christmas tree. Catch a glimpse of it from either the backyard’s covered kitchen or maybe the stocked fishing pond. A fishing pole is something Santa needs to leave under the tree.

A Christmas tree would fit nicely in this Colleyville great room.
With or without a Christmas tree, the outdoor kitchen is surrounded by trees.

Kaci Strawn with Burt Ladner Real Estate will hold this home open from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

629 Verona Drive, Haslet

Completed just this year, this house stands ready for its first Christmas tree. It’s a modern farmhouse well suited for some casual Christmas décor and built on more than a half acre in The Vines of Haslet community.

This new modern farmhouse is ready for its first Christmas tree.

The new house comes with a modern vibe throughout its 4,411 square feet of hardwood floors, white walls, wood accents, and on-trend lighting. The kitchen, for example, features black stainless steel appliances with today’s very popular center island and updated white tile.

Its open floorplan stretches from that great kitchen then opens to an eating space that leads to the living area and ends with a fireplace. The wood-beamed ceiling and the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace surround offer the right backdrop for a Christmas tree.

Upstairs, the game room has space for a pool table, so of course there’s ample space for a Christmas tree to take its place each December. Outside the covered patio is another good spot for a tree … because the more the merrier, right?

The stockings can be hung by the chimney with care this stone fireplace.
There’s space for a tree right here.

From noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, agent Dona Robinson with Allie Beth Allman & Associates will hold this house open.

1708 Cliffview Drive, Plano

Just think of the opportunities to show off Christmas trees at this West Plano home overlooking holes 6, 10, and 16 of the Gleneagles Kings golf course. Not only could the trees be set up to sparkle from windows, but the outstanding patio also could be decorated for the holidays with multiple trees. Wouldn’t the golfers just love that festive touch while puttering around?

The patio is large enough for several trees and still allows great views of the golf course.

The interior of this 8,919-square-foot house, set in a gated community, has ample space for Christmas trees. Built in 2002, the house was renovated in 2021 making it a modern and luxurious abode with five bedrooms — all with walk-in closets — and eight bathrooms.

The living room could be spectacular at Christmastime. Imagine the living room with a really tall tree, reaching to the top of the dramatic cathedral ceiling. The railing overlooking it from the second floor would, of course, look spectacular when draped with garland. The fireplace is in view, too, so the stockings could be part of setting a scene worthy of a home tour.

The cathedral ceiling allows for a dramatically tall Christmas tree.
This home comes with five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, golf course views, and plenty of space for Christmas trees.

In case laundry was on the to-do list, this house ensures its owners can always have clean clothes. Not one, not two, but three laundry areas are located in this house, which is priced at $6 million. An ample laundry room is located downstairs, a second was placed in the master bedroom closet, and a third is in service upstairs. It’s a great way to save steps when there are trees to decorate all over this house.

Liz Lockerman with Gregorio Real Estate Company has this home listed and can arrange a personal tour.
