Taking Hillbillies to New Heights, Bubba Brings The Brilliance to Arkansas Home

I am writing this column flying 35,000 feet in the air on my way back to Dallas. My husband, Gus, and I spent a week visiting our heir and spare in Boston since her semester was done. Our daughter took us to watch films created by her friends who are graduating with their MFA in Film and Media Art. Spoiler alert: these kids are kind, funny, and incredibly talented. The future of Hollywood is in great hands. Their brilliance is overwhelming. I digress.

As I sit here chewing on some ice, I cannot help but think that if I struck it rich much the same way Bubba and Bubbina did last year, I would finance their films. What is the point of striking it rich if you cannot help others?

Case in point, Bubba and Bubbina are helping their cousins Jethro and Jethrine buy and redo the home featured in this week’s column. It was only natural seeing as how Jethro and Jethrine loved how Bubba remodeled his Tudor home and Bubbina’s castle.

The future home of Jethro and Jethrine is located at 561 Polk Road 56, Mena, Arkansas. It has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, is almost 1,700 square feet, and sits on three acres. The owners are asking $75,000 but it does need a little bit of work. Bubba is up to the challenge.

“So whatcha thinkin’ here Jethro? I’ve been lookin’ at some of them there designer magazines and I think this is what they’re callin’ farmhouse chic.”

“Chic? I plan on building a coop so there’s no need to use part of the house for chickens.”

Bubba lets out a guffaw.

“Chic don’t mean chickens, Jethro. Chic means city-fied.”

“Yer so smart Bubba. Ya know, I was thinkin’ I could put a still in that there gap so that way we won’t get wet if it rains.”

Brilliance.

“Bubba, Jethrine just really loves the floorin’ you picked for the house. Me and Jethrine can play checkers wherever we go.”

“Them there white squares are so your youngins’ can play hopscotch once they learn them numbers.”

“And looky here Jethro, you have your own cement pond and a dog house for ol’ Banjo.”

“Ooooh doggie.”

“And here’s the best for last, Jethro.”

“You and Jethrine still have enough of that there foundation to keep adding on to the house.”

Brilliance.

Beaming with pride over the job his cousin had done for himself and Jethrine, Jethro was left speechless.

“I don’t know what to say, Bubba. It’s just bootiful and when me and Jethrine are ready to make our house bigger I’ll be sure to call you.”

And so ends another chapter of the Bubba and Bubbina chronicles. If only I knew some promising film students who could turn their tale into a feature film.

Way to make fun of the town and stereotype the culture. I’ll pass on watching your videos thanks.

I support the installation of a still, and would certify it as kosher. Perhaps you will share Carmen’s kosher summer vacation plans, as Candy’s Dirt is family friendly and focused!

Hi Rabbi: Thanks for the read. Carmen’s plans are to film her short film so is she is busy casting and looking for a location to do the shoot. She will be staying in Boston. When she films I will go up and do the craft services for her. I may need some tips on Kosher cooking depending on who she gets to be on her crew. Hope you have a great rest of the week.
