A Casa Linda Highlands Home That’s (Almost) Worlds Apart

You know how some parts of Dallas feel like their own little world? This week’s Highlight Home of the Week, sponsored by Dallas mortgage broker Lisa Peters of Cardinal Financial, takes us to a 1950-built home in an East Dallas neighborhood that almost was its own town. Sort of.
A Feb. 20, 1945 Dallas Morning News article read, “Suburbs to Consider Incorporating as City.” The short blurb on page 5 reported that a council of 15 residents representing four East Dallas neighborhoods proposed to do just that. Under their plan, the 5,000 residents of Reinhardt, Casa Linda Estates, Shamrock Shores, and Broadview (I think, but you tell me what it says below) neighborhoods would be incorporated as a new Dallas suburb to be named Casa Linda Highlands.
Now, I don’t know if this was a clever ploy by adjacent developers, or just something that juries of 15 men occasionally did. But in my weekly archive dives to research Dallas neighborhoods, I don’t recall coming across something like this.
Rest assured though, this Casa Linda Highlands home, listed by David Collier of David Griffin and Company Realtors, is squarely located in Dallas city limits (though Collier in his MLS home description will agree the neighborhood is one of Dallas’ most eclectic.)
This 2,494-square-foot home has four bedrooms and two baths in a naturally split bedroom floor plan. I say naturally split because the home, like many in this post-war Garland Road neighborhood, was once a duplex. Previous owners have reimagined the home with large, open floor plan spaces and two spacious sets of bedrooms on each wing of the home.
Nowadays, the home has been updated with fresh paint, a modern kitchen and bathrooms with updated fixtures, and refinished oak hardwood flooring. Let me repeat that: original, beautifully refinished oak wood floors.
The gourmet kitchen features steely-grey custom cabinetry, an oversized island with a butcher block countertop, and stainless steel appliances. A tile backsplash over the stove accents the whole color palette.
The primary bedroom features a huge walk-in closet and a completely updated ensuite bath. The other three bedrooms are generous in size and the second bathroom has also been renovated.
Collier says other recent updates include new windows, a new roof, a tankless water heater, and two zoned energy-efficient HVAC systems. Don’t forget the giant backyard with wooden deck and ample yard for outdoor living and activities. Remember, it’s an oversized duplex lot so it measures 0.37 acres.
This home has a lot going for it, and the location within walking distance to White Rock Lake can’t be beat. Even if it’s not in “the City of Casa Linda Highlands.”
