Need a Laugh? These Home Inspection Fails From 2022 Will Do The Trick

Share News:

This time of year gets pretty hectic, what with the holidays, end-of-year work stuff, kids out of school, family and friends in town, lots of big events, and on and on. It can be an emotional time for many as well — joyful, but also sad, as inevitably each year there are loved ones missing from the celebration.

Whew. See what I mean? I’m like two sentences in, and I’m tearing up. That’s why, round about December 20th or so, I start looking for humor wherever I can. I need a good laugh a few times a day to keep the holiday spirit flowing so I don’t scream at the people in line at the grocery store or put lumps of coal in everyone’s stocking. I’m also fun at New Year’s parties.

So this week, at Upon Closer Inspection, we’re looking back at some of the good humor we’ve shared over the past year.

Tinker Toy Water Heater

Remember this colorful DIY connection fail? Who knows, someone might find a set like this under the tree this year! This set of home inspection LOLs also included a guy who actually drilled holes in the side of the building to accommodate wiring that wasn’t long enough, and one of our more inexplicable crawl space finds.

WE’RE ON A ROOF!

This video makes me laugh every time I see it. The first part — not so much the part about a house flipper painting an old roof to make it look new. This collection of wacky home inspection finds also included a couple of “what’s behind that door” surprises, and another fun crawl space find.

A Little Tape Should Fix That

Honestly, this is one of my favorites of all time, because this column is all just pictures of homeowners trying to repair their homes with tape. And this pic is the best. I love the thought process here: “Geez, that crack is getting pretty bad, I’d better get some tape on there! Whew, that should hold it.”

DIY Reno Fail

When you think you’re ready for your own show on HGTV, but you’re the project, not the host. It was hard to choose my favorite from this collection of home inspection humor, because this column has the guy who used a car jack to lift up his HVAC unit, and the surprise curtains, but when they put in a new counter over the electrical outlets, that’s good stuff.

The Lowest Form of Humor

We’re not above a little potty humor now and then. Some of our best friends are plumbers. Literally. That’s why when Inspector Alex sent this photo and everyone started snickering, I knew I had to share it with you, good people, because isn’t there a 9-year-old kid in all of us? 💩

This collection of funny finds from the field has a homicidal ceiling fan, and a Halloween costume only a first-time home buyer could love.

Here’s hoping we’ve filled your cup with lots of good cheer! Wishing you and yours a safe and happy holiday!
