Rainbow House Reigns When It Comes to Fun

I love The Rainbow House. No quirky story or mockery this week, just pure love from yours truly to this gem located next to one of my most favorite national parks, Joshua Tree National Park.

Joshua Tree artist Patrick Hasson spent two years meticulously hand-painting every wall of The Rainbow House.

“It is the largest work of livable art in the Mojave Desert … in fact, there’s nothing else like it on planet Earth,” according to Hasson’s website.

If you have ever been to Joshua Tree, then you know that description and The Rainbow House fits in perfectly with its environment.

The Rainbow House Features An Actual Joshua Tree

The Rainbow House has two bedrooms, and two bathrooms and is just over 1,000 square feet. You can find this work of art at 61553 El Reposo St, Joshua Tree, California. The sale price is $540,000.

In case you did not notice, that is a Joshua tree in the front yard.

Now I know at first glance you may think, “Good Lord!” but this is the kind of home that makes you smile regardless of your mood.

You see, even The Rock cannot help smiling at The Rainbow House.

While wildly colorful, it works because the shade of the colors they chose does not burn out your retinas. They are pleasant, relaxing even. And for the record, I absolutely love the fact that they have twinkle lights in the kitchen. How fun is that?

The reason this house works is that the artist, Hasson, only uses six custom colors when he paints. The curtains and other little accents pull it all together.

Let’s Take It Out Back

The really fun part of this house is the outside.

There is so much room in the back for entertaining. The property comes with a cowboy pool. The drips of paint running down the pool are intentional.

Using a technique he has dubbed “dripping” (Psychedelic Expressionism) Hasson drips paint and then uses sharp objects to manipulate the paint to create a sense of motion and dimension.

There is really not much more you could ask for. You have a fire pit, hammocks, and even an outdoor bathroom. The only thing you need to bring to this house is you because the fun is already there.

The true masterpiece of this property, however, is the garage. It has been converted into a completely hand-painted rainbow room, designed specifically for photo shoots.

I will say it again. I love this house. I would live here every day of the week and twice on Sunday if I could.
