This Bud Oglesby Condo Is One To Ogle

We’ve written about Hood Street Townhouse Condos before. How could we not, right?

These two-story condo buildings were designed by Bud Oglesby and sit in the heart of Mansion Park. This condo feels particularly special though. That’s in large part to the current owner. You might know her from her vintage furniture shop in the Design District, Drécore. She recently closed up her brick-and-mortar, but you can still check her inventory on Instagram @shopdrecor. Her name is Andréa Sinacola and she knows what’s up.

She loves iconic vintage design and has an appreciation for everything the way it was. Her best lesson when it comes to this condo? When something is designed so brilliantly the first time, don’t mess with it.

This is why in Unit G, you’ll find the original kitchen GE Wonder Kitchen. It’s a single piece, all-in-one appliance package that’s still very much in working order. That’s in large part to Sinacola’s dedication to keeping it real.

She said the wiring on the Wonder Kitchen was a little dicey given today’s standards so she pulled it out, cut through the stainless steel, and added an updated convection unit. The original knobs are now just for show, but all that sleek, gorgeous design is intact thanks to her ingenuity.

Another questionable of-the-era element? That stunning floating staircase didn’t have any sort of railing. Sinacola found a way to add safety without wrecking the aesthetic — side panels of glass.

The original fireplace was a hot mess (Pun. Did it. Not ashamed!), too, so she sealed it up. Aside from that, she stayed as true to the original design as possible.

She did say when she removed the carpet upstairs there was black-and-white linoleum underneath. Odd choice for an upstairs bedroom, but I bet someone can comment below as to why. She replaced the carpet with engineered hardwood but laid it in a diagonal pattern to fit the vibe of the condo. She said there was never a doubt that it would be diagonal; vertical or horizontal just didn’t feel right.

The incredible blue on the walls fits perfectly with the wood floor and accents throughout and I’m kind of obsessed with the orange on the front door. Then there’s the bathroom and the cutest low-maintenance courtyard. Everything about this condo is so fabulous.

Maybe the most fabulous though? The light fixtures stay. And guess what else can stay? Literally any furniture in the pictures. It’s all for sale.

And here’s that story: Sinacola is an attorney by day, but around 2020 she was feeling pretty burnt and needed an outlet. She decided to open a vintage shop — she loves sourcing the best Midcentury Modern and vintage-era finds. She said if there’s something you’re looking for, she can almost definitely find it.

Now if you’ll remember, 2020 was also when the world shut down. She literally opened Drécor in February. The world closed in March. Because of her exceptional eye, she still made it through the year and had a fantastic year in 2021.

She’s not quite sure what she’ll do next, but buy all her things while she figures it out. They’re so freaking fantastic.
