This Home on Baxtershire Drive is Just What The Doctors Ordered

If the walls of 7552 Baxtershire could talk, they might ask for a scalpel. 

Come to think of it, those walls would definitely know how to administer cancer treatments and resuscitate a heart. 

The fabulous $1.3 million home in the trendy JanMar subdivision was built in 1984 and originally belonged to the legendary Dr. Michael Mack, a world-renowned cardiothoracic surgeon. 

Mack is described as a pioneer in his field, serving as medical director of cardiothoracic surgery for Baylor Scott & White Health. He’s performed more than 7,000 cardiac surgeries, with more than 3,000 involving heart valve procedures.

After taking care of the 4,200-square-foot Baxtershire property with a surgeon’s precision — building a pool and pool house, and raising a family there — the Macks moved on and passed the torch to another doctor, radiation oncologist, Dr. Arve Gillette. 

Gillette and his wife Bonnie also spent many years in the home and recently listed it with Realtor Renee Saulnier of The Michael Group. A new buyer — not a doctor — is slated to close on the property Aug. 12. 

“It has massive high ceilings, big chandeliers, three fireplaces, and a beautiful pool and pool house that the Macks put in,” Saulnier said. 

The story-and-a-half home has four bedrooms, three and one-half baths, and a three-car garage. 

The 4-inch white oak flooring was recently installed, and there’s fresh white paint throughout the home. New carpet, LED lighting, and walk-in closets make this home just what the doctor ordered. 

A Neighborly Neighborhood

The new owners are planning to perform their own surgery at 7552 Baxtershire, Saulnier added. 

They’re planning to extend the loft area upstairs for a balcony, add on to the master bedroom for a larger closet, rework the backyard oasis, and open up a wall in the kitchen. 

And when all is said and done, Saulnier believes there will be no buyers’ remorse. After all, the new owners have Saulnier as a neighbor, right around the corner on Yamini Drive. 

“I have lived in the neighborhood since 1992,” the Realtor said. “It’s got trees and hills. At one point in time, Idlewood Lane was one of the highest points in the city.”

JanMar, named after the developer’s daughters Janet and Margaret, was developed in the mid-1950s south of Forest Lane in North Dallas. The area is home to the iconic Dallas Round House and the reputable Arthur Kramer Elementary School. 

“It’s a really neighborly neighborhood,” Saulnier said. “People are friendly. They know each other. They stop and talk to each other. A lot of neighborhoods lack that nowadays.” 

Saulnier said it’s easy to hype a listing on her home turf.

“I can’t say enough about it,” she said. “I get so excited. It’s such a privilege. I get to talk about it and tell the truth about it.”
