Anytime you spot a midcentury modern ranch in Dallas, you can bet there is a story behind it. As I got deep into my research, I discovered this particular home was built by Dixon-Furlow Inc. and was part of a home tour that went on for 16 days!
In 1965 builders knew the public was tired of the 1950s mass-produced homes, so they got inventive. In two neighborhoods, The Meadows and Braeburn Glen, 16 firms constructed 32 homes in a wide variety of styles. There were 17 in The Meadows and 15 in Braeburn Glen. The Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Dallas selected these two sites for their annual 1965 Parade of Homes tour.
This midcentury modern ranch was a public favorite not only for its architecture but also for the uber-cool interiors. Well-known interior designer Howard Goldman was responsible for furnishing and accessorizing this house 1965 Parade of Homes, and set the style pace for years to come.
If you know your history, you will remember that Gemini was an early NASA space program in 1965. Among the trends that Gemini set were two astronauts in a capsule. To capitalize on this happening in the same year as the home tour, a call went out for families with twins to serve as hosts for the annual tour. Talk about innovative marketing!
It’s not surprising an intelligent buyer snapped this Midcentury Modern ranch up a few years ago and amped up the vibe. A wall was opened, the fireplace resurfaced, new hardwoods were laid in the bedrooms, and the bathrooms were completely updated.
