Lake Highlands homes

Lake Highlands has a reputation for being family-oriented, so much so that kids who grow up there go on to become parents wanting to raise their kids there, too. Miles of nature trails, breathtaking views of White Rock Lake and downtown Dallas, exemplary public schools, and affordable housing – those are just a few reasons Lake Highland residents stay year after year, and sometimes decade after decade.

“Lake Highlands holds a special place in my heart,” says 23-year resident Mary Beth Harrison of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate Park Cities. “Life in Lake Highlands is like living in a small town. Neighbors know one another and watch out for each other. We would often throw together neighborhood dinners with whatever we were each cooking for the night. You’ll find children playing outside, people walking, just things not found in every neighborhood in Dallas.”

Now it may have taken them a while, but developers have finally caught on to this neighborhood’s retail potential. Intersections throughout Lake Highlands, including Skillman and Abrams, Abrams and Northwest Highway, Audelia and Walnut Hill, and Walnut Hill and Skillman, are now teeming with restaurants (both chains and one-offs), movie theaters, and big-box and small-biz retail. And there are new openings still happening. This community is no doubt on everyone’s radar and it’s finally a destination – for date night, for recreation, and of course, for a place to call home.

Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate has several properties to peruse if you’re intrigued to move in or move up. (Moving on is certainly another option – if you just have to. But you better have a good reason.) The three options for Lake Highlands homes range from just under $400k to under $1.2 million.

9730 Forestridge Drive

Harrison currently represents a three-bedroom, two-bath, two-owner home at 9730 Forestridge Drive near Audelia, ripe for a little makeover.

“The current owner bought the home 43 years ago from the original builder of the neighborhood, who also lived in this home for several years,” Harrison said. “Of course, being walking distance to White Rock Elementary holds its own appeal. This well-cared for home is ready for a new family and their personal touch to make it their own.”

Coming in at 2,062 square feet (per tax rolls), the floor plan accommodates a variety of uses. Original wood flooring runs throughout most of the home. The light-filled formal front room could work as a private study or a dining room. The bay window and door to the back patio add charm to the room. The spacious den features a brick-hearth fireplace. The attached eating area overlooks the serene backyard with trickling fountain. Three spacious bedrooms with several walk-in closets complete the package.

The home is priced at $399,000 and will be open Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Call Harrison at 214-535-8377 to schedule a showing.

9447 Viewside Drive

Need a little more room, a little less updating, near say… Merriman Park Elementary? Marlene Jaffe of Dave Perry-Miller Preston Center has a three-bedroom, three-bath home at 9447 Viewside Drive priced nicely at $419,900.

“This is Lake Highlands at its best!” Jaffe said. “From the front exterior’s charming red brick and pine door to the large backyard, this home has great curb appeal and all kinds of other appeal, too.”

Inside, the spacious open living area features a vaulted ceiling and handsome brick fireplace, creating a very warm and inviting space. The updated kitchen includes granite countertops, white subway tile backsplash, gas cooktop, breakfast bar, and built-in hutch. Other special highlights include wood flooring, crown molding, wet bar, lots of storage space and a courtyard patio. Call Jaffe at 214-893-3413 to schedule a showing.

9780 Broken Bow Road

Phillip Tilger of Dave Perry-Miller East Dallas, himself a Lake Highlands resident, and a Lake Highlands Advocate Top 25 Realtors, has 9780 Broken Bow Road for sale. Set on a quarter-acre, it features five bedrooms and 4½ baths in 4,758 square feet (per tax). You can see it on Sunday between 2 and 4 p.m.

“What I love about this area is there is something for everyone,” Tilger said. “You’ve got lovely new apartment homes and smaller starter homes on up to acreage homes zoned for horses. This one is somewhere in between.

All have the added bonus of being near large expanses of undeveloped public land designated for recreation. I’m proud when I get to show people around ‘my home.’”

Broken Bow was rebuilt in 2006 and the kitchen and master bath were renovated with in the last two years. The kitchen features quartzite countertops, custom cabinetry with soft-close drawers, 6-burner gas cooktop, double oven with convection oven, built-in fridge, beverage fridge and more.

The large master bedroom is on the first floor, while upstairs has three bedrooms and two baths, a second large living room, game room, and exercise room. The utility room has space for an extra refrigerator and has a pet-washing station.

The backyard has a new pool and spa, nice covered outdoor living area and rolling electric gate across the driveway. And just to help ensure you have some low-maintenance years ahead of you, the roof and two premium HVAC units are new as well.

Call Tilger at 214-734-8450 to schedule a showing.
