Own an HGTV All Stars Preston Royal Midcentury Modern

Sometimes total luck is involved when searching for our Inwood House of the Week. When this 1953 Preston Royal Midcentury Modern popped up on Realtor.com, practically in Candy’s backyard, I had one of those OMG moments. I just knew there was a big story behind this home, and I was right.

This Preston Royal Midcentury Modern at 11339 Royalshire Dr. was your simple one-story Leave It to Beaver home when Leslie Ezelle decided to put her HGTV Design Star All Star touch to it. Ezelle is a Dallas treasure. She is a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, a rock star interior designer, owner of Leslie Christine Designs, and she competed on season six of HGTV’s Design Stars. She was such a fan favorite that HGTV invited her back to be on the  HGTV Design Star All Star competition, and of course, she became the first All Star winner.

Preston Royal Midcentury ModernIn 2012, Ezelle and her partner, Libby Doudouze, decided to renovate their corner lot and create the home their family full of teens, tweens, and pets needed. She doubled the size of this Preston Royal Midcentury Modern, changed the ambiance, and let’s face it, made the home a star!

I have to digress and talk about location. This 5,071-square-foot Preston Royal Midcentury Modern sitting on almost a half-acre is a win-win for the same reasons Candy purchased in this neighborhood. It’s smack in between St. Marks, Hockaday, and Medical City! You cannot find a better location for schools and medical professionals!

Drop dead sexy!

Yes if you are over six feet tall you can fit in that tub!

Ezelle and Doudouze created a great home, and as it aways happens, moved on.

Just when you think a house cannot get better, it does!

The exciting thing about any home is that every owner adds their touch. The present sellers took off the brick 50s look and added the floor to ceiling windows on the façade.

This Preston Royal Midcentury Modern has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a powder bath, and can we talk about that backyard?

“It’s where everyone wants to go,” Dave Perry-Miller listing agent Keith Callahan said. “It’s so inviting.”

Callahan is spot-on. There is an entire outdoor room, and I mean a real room, not just a covered patio, as well as an outdoor kitchen, a sports court, and my personal fave — worry-free artificial turf!

The real beauty of this Preston Royal Midcentury Modern is the clarity of the addition and the great renovations. The characteristic midcentury flow and architectural details, like clerestory windows, resonate with buyers. We all want modern amenities, however, having original style elements is crucial in differentiating homes today. Anyone can buy new construction, but the opportunity to purchase a home that has been appropriately up-sized and renovated with care, well that is a rare commodity!

Callahan has this Preston Royal Midcentury Modern listed at $1.525 million.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the corner sliding glass doors / wall that open the two living areas up to each other and to the outside, but when the glass wall is closed, it separates the 2 living areas from each other – what a fantastic design. Also, needless to say, that outdoor covered living room is fantastic.

I sense a bit of a selling point there, Candy?

Being a builder and seeing something,I want to say transformed it is beautiful. I love homes of the past and the quality that was put in them.

This is a lovely home, but certainly not a genuine Mid-Century modern. Ranch soft modern homes are not MCM. MCM has very specific characteristics!!!

It was built in 1953 and has been extensively remodeled. It retains some of the original MCM characteristics however.
