CD: Tony, How did you get started in homebuilding and the “Build-To-Suit” process?
TV: It’s in my blood! I am a 3rd generation home builder, learned my craft from my uncle building high end homes in New Jersey & New York. I came to Texas in 1985 and gained experience with a production builder at a very young age, also worked as a commercial estimator. After briefly returning to New York, I came back to Texas for good. I continued to gain experience building single family homes as well as custom townhome projects before starting Bella Custom Homes in 1993. Yep, that long ago! I always had a desire to build beautiful homes with authentic architectural design and after more than 20 years, I feel we have established a reputation for our incredible attention to detail, our architecture styling, and the personal service that makes the homebuilding experience a good one.
CD: What makes your homes so unique?
TV: Attention to detail is what sets us apart. If you do that, you provide an exceptional home because that is the true difference in a craftsman. We are a small boutique firm, and my exceptional team of architects, interior designers, engineers, technology and energy efficiency experts, as well as my Vice President, Stacy Brotemarkle, are all focused on the details that make our architecturally accurate homes stand out. No matter what architectural style, my artisans are on the top end of the trade pool and have the expertise to build the quality level we demand of them. I study architecture and try to raise the bar with everyone home we build, and our high referral rate confirms our core values of quality, accountability, transparency and integrity in everything we do.
CD: How do you start the process of designing and building a home?
TV: We go through an interview process to thoroughly understand what the customer wants and expects, and to communicate how we work, our building process. Once an agreement for our services is signed, I match the buyer with the right architect to fit their needs. Together we help craft the design of the home with our customer. The process to design, finalize plan and provide a detailed spec book for that home can take 4-6 months, depending on the clients’ availability. From there we develop a construction schedule and move forward to the next phase.
CD: I have to ask, why did you decide to build in North Texas?
TV: I moved here for a building job and fell in love with Texas. The people, the lifestyle-its just a great place to raise a family. It’s obviously a great place to build homes and has always had a strong luxury home market. The incredible growth going on right now will continue to attract affluent professionals who will need a home.
CD: Do you have a Signature architectural style?
TV: We are well known for Italian Renaissance and Mediterranean architecture, but also for French and many other classic architectural styles, including more modern transitional homes. We are able to accomplish the incredible detailing of some of the classic European architectural styles and that’s why people looking for that seek us out. However, we can build any style of architecture and have a broad mix of formal to transitional styles.
CD: What special touches are you known for?
TV: The architecturally accurate construction, the incredible detailing and level of exceptional craftsman are the touches for which we are most well known. Our goal is to exceed our customer’s expectations on every level. We are also known for building luxury homes on extreme topography with a dramatic result.
CD: How do you work with clients?
TV: First, we gather the right team. We select the right engineer, architect, interior designer, technology and energy efficiency experts to work on each home based on the client and the home they want. Then it’s our attention to detail that drives the project. We are most proud of our client relationships. We offer personal service, always responding promptly. Our policy is to be back with our customers within 24 hours. Not only are we a great builder, we are good communicators and that is the key to a successful relationship with your buyers and ensures a great building experience.
CD: What are some of the newest building features popular with buyers today?
TV: We are seeing a continued importance on smart home technology, which is always advancing and in high demand as well as the high performance, energy efficiency aspects of construction. As a Graduate Master Builder, I spend a lot of time studying and gaining new expertise in these areas.
CD: What are your future plans?
TV: In addition to the Build to Suit projects we have going on, we have secured home sites for future builds. We currently have lots available in Frisco, as well as Preston Hollow. We have a large lot in the gated community of Starwood in Frisco, on Buena Vista, that has views all the way to Lake Lewisville. It’s also very close to the new Cowboys Headquarters and practice facilities. We also have these 2 completed spec projects available right now: 6923 Ranier in Chapel Creek in Frisco, as well as a breathtaking estate at 4926 Deloache in Old Preston Hollow. We just had a price improvement on that one. It is now priced at $13,950,000.
