Our Inwood National Bank Home of the Week is a perfect template for everything you need to do when you build a home today. This University Park custom transitional has all the features buyers crave, from a floor plan that flows beautifully to flawless finish out. Hats off to Mike Regan of Regan Custom Homes for this 5,483-square-foot beauty at 4117 Amherst Avenue. If you can convince the sellers to leave the furniture, you’re all set.

Allie Beth Allman Realtor Marc Ching just listed the 2017 custom transitional for $2.349 million. Built as a family home with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and two powder baths, even the secondary bedrooms have generous proportions.

“We’ve seen cleaner lines in new builds and a trend towards the transitional style for the past three to five years,” Ching said. “Buyers still want the open kitchen and family room plan, but they hate seeing a mess. This home has what I call a working pantry. All of the small appliances are housed in the large walk-in pantry.”

That is pure genius and something we hope to see become a regular feature in new construction.

One of the things that sets this home apart from many transitional houses is wall space. So many homes today are going a little overboard with the floor-to-ceiling windows and doors in every single room. It can be beautiful, but if you have an art collection, hanging space is at a premium.

“I see that look becoming more room specific, or you can get that fishbowl effect,” Ching said. “It works well in a family room and kitchen, but people still want intimacy in dining and study areas.”

Aerin Lauder light fixtures grace the kitchen island.

A lot of credit for this home has to go to Cypress Designs owner Kim McCue, who worked closely with the owners to achieve that clean, transitional look that incorporates a bit of whimsy with the elegance. Take those lavender chairs for instance. It’s a great meeting of the minds that can take grandma’s dining room chairs from “blah” to “ah!” and put a smile on your face at the same time.

There’s a great bonus room above the garage, perfect as a teen hangout. With a bar, microwave, and fridge you may not see them for days on end. That could be a deal-sealer for a lot of people we know.

This time of year, buyers are looking for relief from the heat, and that means a pool. This custom transitional home has a pool with a sun ledge and a hot tub. The sun ledge has to be one of the best inventions in years. You can get cool, get some sun, and never wreck your hair.

One of our favorite features is the synthetic grass. It’s the wave of the future, no mowing, no bugs. “It’s awesome,” Ching said. “It looks beautiful all year.”

This home is one you need to see to appreciate fully. As pretty as the photographs are, there are so many things that bear close inspection, from the Walter Zanger tile to the white crocodile wallpaper on the bar wall. The details are subtle and exquisite.
