Dallas architect Clifford Hutsell is famous for the whimsical and eclectic homes he built in Lakewood in the 1920s and later. He designed the M-Streets property at 6021 Mercedes Ave. in 1927 and you can see his signatures, like Batchelder gas fireplace, handcrafted marble mosaic floor, cove ceilings, stained glass windows and glass doors on cabinets in the breakfast nook. This home has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and 2,275 square feet on two stories.

This home is updated with modern amenities, like the kitchen, but it still retains the architectural integrity of the original design. There are hardwoods throughout, a screened porch overlooking the serene backyard, and guest quarters above the garage, which include a full bath and kitchenette.

It was listed Oct. 3 by The Jackson Team with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate for $650,000.

White Rock Hills is one of the East Dallas neighborhoods where you can get a great deal on a house. The property at 5852 Clendenin Ave., near Interstate 30 and N. Jim Miller Road, is an example of the renovations happening there to older homes. This 1963 ranch is completely updated with new hardwood floors, tile, fresh paint, and a contemporary look. It has has three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half bath, and 2,282 square feet on one story.

The home has two living rooms, one with a gas fireplace and both with recessed lighting and crown moulding.
