Don’t Mind That Police Helicopter, That Suspect Running With a Gun: Just a Normal Day in Preston Royal

Just a normal day in the Preston Royal neighborhood here. There is a burglary that just happened at 11012 Westmere, south of me, cluster of pretty homes on a lake, while on Royalshire and Northaven a homeowner has a suspect at gunpoint. Yes, I was told he had him/her on the ground and he is sitting on him/her.

But then a second suspect is running around with a gun, after pointing it at the homeowner, hence the police helicopters doing dips in my backyard. Oh and I’m told the homeowner ran over the guy with his car before he whipped out his gun.

Whew. Just another day in the neighborhood.

Let’s see. Crime in Dallas is up:

Murders are up nearly 40 percent over last year in Dallas, but the rate has slowed since an alarming spike in March. There were 17 homicides in May, when 10 people killed in one week. But March remained the deadliest month of the year, with 20 victims.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown has said that the violent crime spike is dropping, which he credits to the work of the violent crime task force. The department released Tuesday the latest tally of arrests between June 2-9 by the 170-officer task force.

Violent crime dropping they say, good. But there has been almost a three percent increase in property crime this year:

Brown has also started a task force to battle a nearly 3 percent increase in property crimes this year. Dallas police officials say people are more likely to be victims of a theft or a burglary than a violent crime. Last week, the task force arrested 29 people and recovered two stolen cars.

Now Chief Brown has resigned, our City Manager is out of here, and our Mayor wants to spend more money fixing up buildings in Fair Park with no real development plan while we need more and better paid police and, after today, maybe a couple more police helicopters.

You forgot to mention that our district Attorney just resigned.

Is that a real-time display of police activity?

Dallas likes to be a national leader in municipal management whims.

This is a move towards self-service in addressing crimes against property, particularly in the breaking and entering category.
