Happy Fourth of July From Fort Worth

FW Iggy Happy Fourth

If you are missing your Fort Worth Friday, we are too, but we gave our Fort Worth writer, Eric Prokesh, the weekend off because it’s the Fourth of July AND his birthday.

To feed your fix, you can always drool over John Goff’s Eagle Mountain retreat which is truly spectacular and just west of town.

So Happy Birthday to America, and to Eric, with a big tip of the patriotic hat from Iggy, the 40-foot iguana at the Museum of Living Art.

Crafted by famed Texas sculpture artist “Daddy-O Wade”, it is owned by Lee Bass and on loan to the zoo. Prior to finding his true home in Fort Worth, Iggy lived over the Lone Star Cafe in New York City. When the Cafe closed, the iguana was purchased by a Virginia couple and he lived on their farm. In 1997, the artist and a well known Dallas financier named Monk White bought it, took it back to New York City until Mr. Bass purchased it two years later. In 2010 it was loaned to the zoo.

Conceived and born in Texas, Iggy has sure travelled a lot, but he knows the true value of  Fort Worth real estate and life there: priceless.
