This single mom recently started her homebuying journey with Ebby Halliday Realtor Peter Loudis, one of the top producers in Ebby’s Lakewood-Lake Highlands office.

She’s documenting her adventure on social media as @Amyvanderoef, including her blog at  AmyVanderoef.com.

“Amy has decided to take the plunge into homeownership and she searched for a local real estate expert and came across my name,” Loudis said. “She is looking for a new home in East Dallas and wanted to track her journey and give a real account of the homebuying process.”

Choosing a brokerage was an essential part of Vanderoef’s homebuying process.

“Having my Ebby Halliday team by my side has made all of the difference – their knowledge and confidence in this housing market allows me to enjoy the process while they lead the way,” she said. “Peter Loudis came highly recommended as an award-winning industry leader, and he’s a family man, which is important, too. He has been amazing to work with!”

Amy VanderoefVanderoef currently lives in a Dallas highrise, which she chose after her divorce three years ago in part for its safety. So a sense of security is a priority in her new house. She’s looking for two to three bedrooms and move-in ready, although she’s not afraid of making a few cosmetic changes.

“I am a single mom doing this completely on my own, so the word ‘security’ comes to my mind every time I think of homeownership,” Vanderoef said. “There are so many great communities in East Dallas and my son goes to elementary school there in his dad’s attendance zone, so that allows me to have a very broad search – I want a neighborhood and community.”

Vanderoef said the feeling of a home is part of what’s driving her search.

“I want to walk in the door and really feel like this is my home,” she said. “I picture my son and I living there and creating memories.”

East Dallas properties often go fast in this red-hot market, and Loudis says he and Vanderoef talk or text almost daily about her search. Being available and experts on the market is part of what makes Ebby Halliday Realtors stand out.

“Inventory is very tight, especially in East Dallas – we’ve got her set up on listings populating on her email so we can get eyes on it as soon as it hits the market,” he said. “We’ve done a lot of canvassing of neighborhoods so she can get familiar with the communities and when something great goes on the market, she can say, ‘I’ve seen what’s out there and I know what I am looking for.’”

Since those ideal properties go quickly, Loudis says building an understanding of “want” and “would be nice” and “must haves” is a way to make the process go more smoothly and quickly.

“So far, we’ve had a lot of conversations about ‘this isn’t the one, but we’re getting closer,’” he said. “We’ve got about 30 days to find her something and I’m confident that will happen with this partnership between Amy and Ebby Halliday.”

Loudis shared one anecdote about his availability to help Vanderoef find her perfect home.

“The other day, something came out on a Friday morning and she texted me to go view it,” he said. “We were the first car there for showings that started at 2:30.”

“Ebby’s support of ChasingAmysDreamHome came about in a serendipitous way – it actually grew out of a chance conversation,” says Randall Graham, vice president and director of marketing for Ebby Halliday Realtors. “Amy, like many of our clients, had a need, and our job is to listen closely to understand clients’ needs in order to find the best-possible solution. Buying – or selling – a home can be a scary process, and more than ever, it’s critical that you have a trusted guide to lead you through the process. Amy represents just the kind of client we work with every day as the No. 1 independent residential real estate firm in Texas. Following Amy through her homebuying process seemed like a great way to share the experience with others and she’s so fun, too!”
