Open house: Saturday, March 5, 1-4 p.m.

The restoration of 5628 Miller Ave. in Vickery Place is extraordinary. This 1921 house is a blend of Prairie and Tudor, and a landmark in the neighborhood. Steve Kettering, owner of Kettering Ideas, was determined to save it and restore its architecture and history. Mission accomplished.

This home now stands a perfect marriage of old and new, with original elements saved, like shiplap siding from the exterior now used as interior accents, and over 1,200 square feet of new construction added. This three-story home was taken to the studs and rebuilt, and much of the framing, beams, and rafters are new, as well as a new foundation with 28 concrete piers with a lifetime warranty. It now has four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a half bath, and 3,224 square feet.

The floors in much of the home are reclaimed hardwoods, and the overall look is vintage modern, with clean lines and character. The on-trend kitchen features double convection ovens, six-burner gas cooktop, built-in microwave drawer, apron sink, butcher block island, tons of cabinetry, and a subway tile backsplash. The kitchen is separated from the utility room by a sliding barn door custom made from original shiplap siding in the home. Eco-friendly features include a 16+ SEER variable speed HVAC, low-E windows, foam insulation, high-efficiency gas water heater, low-flow commodes, and recirculating hot water.

It was listed March 2 by Jacqui Bloomquist with Coldwell Banker Apex Realtors for $945,000.
