We all are sometimes awoken by strange noises at night. But those noises are rarely caused by strange men trying to break into our house.

At 12:50 a.m. on Dec. 24, a resident of the 4400 block of Bordeaux Avenue was awakened by a thumping sound. When she got downstairs, she saw two men kicking the glass on her back door.

Understandably, she immediately ran back upstairs to wake her husband. But the two burglars soon fled the scene, having accomplished nothing but breaking the door’s outer glass pane. When police arrived, they found a claw hammer and a grinder near the base of the door. What a scary start to one family’s Christmas.

Only a few other crimes were reported in the Park Cities last week:

  • Between 6 and 7:20 p.m. on Dec. 22, a thief stole a $1,500 Jeep golf cart from a home in the 4300 block of Glenwick Lane.
  • Between 3 and 6 p.m. on Dec. 23, a thief stole at least $650 worth of tools from an attached garage in the 3800 block of Purdue Street.
  • Between 2 and 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 23, a thief stole at least $150 worth of packages from a front porch in the 3700 block of Northwest Parkway.
  • Between 3:30 and 10 p.m. on Dec. 24, a burglar entered a gold 2010 Toyota Camry that had been left unlocked in the 3100 block of Drexel Drive and stole a $250 Taurus .38-special pistol, a $125 Garmin GPS, and a $50 5-inch Buck knife.

Why do you post crime reports for only Park Cities? Crime occurs everywhere.

True, PK, crime is everywhere. The problem is that the Dallas Police Department’s new reporting system no longer offers the officer narratives that it used to, making the reports pretty much worthless. The Park Cities, however, still offers this valuable service.

Wonder why DPD is doing that?

      Good Question!
