Calling All Builders: These Peeps Seek Custom Builder in Southlake/Flower Mound for 3000 Square Feet

3000 square foot homeA reader, en route BACK to the DFW area after a few years abroad, writes:

We were wondering if you could give us any recommendations on builders in the Southlake and/or Flower Mound areas? A lot of the builders we’ve contacted (in particular in Southlake) start at $700k which is much more than we could swing.

Do you know of any that operate in the 400k range (not including the lot)?

Were not looking for anything huge…one story 2500-3000 sq ft would suit us fine… just not sure if many custom builders cater to this price range.

She is into the older/antique looks with all the great updates inside and smaller floor plans than the majority that we see.  Of course she loves the Mediterranean and Spanish looks, too. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Love the blog!

These folks are at this very moment contacting all our CandysDirt-preferred home builders, as I do NOT want to steer them to anyone we have not vetted. But we may be missing some great home builders in Southlake and Flower Mound? Know any? We want the scoop!

Also, interesting to note that they want to build a smaller home, 3000 square feet max. Mickey Munir of Shariff Munir tells me his “empty nester” clients ALWAYS come in and say this, but end up with more square footage. Why? Because while people say they want less square footage, they still want larger bedrooms. A great example is my husband who says he wants 3000 square feet but forgets about his loaded garage and two golf club bags. Or my home office!

Like they said at NAREE: “People today want smaller homes with bigger rooms!”

What is the perfect square footage for a home. The other day I heard a family of three say that 9,000 square feet was the perfect size, and that they use every square foot in their home!

I like to live small, so I think 2,500 is about as big as I’d go, but I do see the appeal of 3,000-plus-square-foot homes if you have more than one child.

We are a family of four and I would say 3500 sq ft would be perfect for us. Husband works from home so he needs his offices. We are also at home more than most families because we homeschool and there are times we all need our own space to decompress. We are in a 1800 sq ft rental and with all of us home, it does get a bit small.

We live in a single story 3000 sq ft home built by Hawkins-Wellwood and LOVE it…plenty of room for the two of us. The rooms are large, we have a lot of light, high ceilings. private courtyard, zero-lot line, gated community (Cambridge Place @ Preston/Campbell). Great for empty nesters who love to lock-leave and travel.
