Tuesday Two Hundred: For The Definition of ‘ADORBS’ Check Out This Junius Heights Cottage

Junius Heights is the neighborhood that stoked my love affair with Dallas real estate. My husband and I moved to Junius Heights shortly before we were married, living in a great little craftsman cottage on Glendale Street. We would walk down Junius street to Garden Cafe, and take our dogs for walks around the neighborhood. We knew all of our neighbors and enjoyed stretching our legs on Swiss Avenue. The commute downtown was a breeze, and I took the No. 19 bus every day as we were a one-car household.

And sometimes, when I see the right house, I really think about moving back.

5524 Victor Living

Today’s Tuesday Two Hundred is one such house that has me craving the sweet life back in Junius Heights, and if you look up “adorbs” in the Urban Dictionary, there has to be a photo of 5524 Victor. This two-bedroom, two-bath home with more than 1,660 square feet is so darn cute! This would be the perfect house for a small family or empty nesters. And I can’t say enough good things about this neighborhood. This cute home, with a charming and sunny exterior that conveys well indoors, is listed by Hilee Mulligan of Joe Atkins Realty for $274,900.

It’s only been on the market for five days, but homes like this go fast! The living, dining, and kitchen areas are all open to one another — a tremendous change from its original 1938 Craftsman bungalow layout. It makes the quaint and cozy home feel much larger, though, without sacrificing the character of the house. There are lovely hardwood floors throughout the common areas, and ceramic tile in the kitchen and sunroom.

There is some room for upgrades in the kitchen. I am not a fan of oak cabinetry, but if you’ve got some patience and are piqued by DIY projects, consider using one of these Rustoleum kits for cabinet refinishing. A friend of mine had similar oak cabinets and the transformation to a luxurious espresso finish was night and day. I’ve been considering using one of these for our kitchen cabinets, but they are a great way to change the look of your kitchen on a tight budget. Upgrading the range and counters would be a good way to personalize the space, too. throw in a more neutral shade of paint for the kitchen and sunroom and this place is divine!

5524 Victor Bath

There are only two bedrooms, and the master has a small office area added on to it. It totals 13 x 13, a modest size and actually smaller than the second bedroom, which is 14 x 14. The bath is awash in tile and somewhat cramped feeling. It doesn’t need to be remodeled, but it’s one of those projects you could take on when you’re ready.

5524 Victor Backyard

The backyard, with its huge deck, is an oasis. This is the area you crave when the weather is mild. Set up the grill and bring out the ice chest, because you could host any number of neighbors and friends. And you’ll make plenty friends in Junius Heights, that much I can promise!
