Steve Habgood is the other half of North Oak Cliff’s Hewitt & Habgood Realty Group. Partnering with Kathy Hewitt in 1999 turned Steve from a savvy marketer to a real estate guru. It’s been a pretty profitable partnership for the two, resulting in more than $460 million in sales.

Find out more about Steve and his love for North Oak Cliff below!

CandysDirt.com: Where are you from?

Habgood: I grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona and moved to Dallas in 1985 and have never looked back.

CD: How did you get into real estate?

Habgood: My business partner, Kathy Hewitt, and I did volunteer work together before joining in real estate and really complemented each other’s skill sets. A year after our volunteer work we got together and decided to form Hewitt & Habgood Realty Group (in 1999) to take advantage of my marketing skills and her real estate skills.

CD: As an urban real estate team, are there any words of advice that you seem to offer most of your clients?

Habgood: Make sure you treat your home as one of your most important assets and invest the necessary funds when it comes time to sell to make that asset have the highest possible value. It’s a competitive market out there with many nice homes that buyers are evaluating. You need to make the extra effort to make sure your home shows the very best it can.

CD: Where is home for you in Dallas?

Habgood: Kessler Park for the past 21 years.

CD: And you drive a … let me guess, Mercedes Benz?

Habgood: Lexus, Sewell’s service is outstanding.

CD: What’s your favorite ‘hood in Dallas and why?

Habgood: North Oak Cliff, as it represents the most interesting part of Dallas, with the most natural beauty, and a wonderful collection of neighbors and friends that represent the unique character and charm of what North Oak Cliff is all about.

CD: What was your best/highest sale?

Habgood: There have been many. It’s not the size of the transaction that is important, it is the quality of the experience with the clients and knowing that you did an excellent job in representing their best interests.

CD: Likewise, what was your most challenging sale? What made it memorable?

Habgood: I’m working on one right now that had not been sold in the last 70+ years. There are land and platting issues that all have to be worked through to create a sale down the road.

CD: How quickly have you ever turned a house?

Habgood: In less than 2 weeks

CD: How much did you sell last year?

Habgood: Our team did over $42 million in sales last year and a little over $460,000,000 since forming Hewitt & Habgood in 1999.

CD: What have you learned about selling that makes you so successful?

Habgood: Pay attention to the details, know your market, understand your clients needs, always provide quality service, and be able to market your client’s homes unlike anyone else in the marketplace.

CD: If you ever change careers for an encore you’ll…

Habgood: Have to figure that out when the time comes. I absolutely love my real estate career and don’t have any plans to change right now.

CD: Do you have a second home? If so, where?

Habgood: No, we have always enjoyed the freedom to travel wherever we want rather than be tied down to a particular location.
