Bluffview estate

Today I have an absolute stunner for you, a Bluffview estate with character, style, and grace, the likes of which I have not seen for a month of Sundays!

Bluffview estate

This Bluffview estate started out as a rather simple house in 1940. It has passed from one family member with great taste to yet another, and each has profoundly improved it.

Sited on over an acre in the fabulous Sunnybrook Estates area of Bluffview, the home is now 7,486 square feet with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a powder bath, a three-car garage, and an award-winning pool house.

You may recall me consistently telling you if a family has lived in a home a long time, that simple fact is a considerable selling feature. It means the home lives well. That, to me, is so much more important than any other feature. The present owners have been here over 20 years, raised children and cherished every moment in this Bluffview estate. What’s even more relevant is the house has been in the family for much longer than that.

The present owner’s sister had lived here for many years. She knew the house well as they did a lot of collaborative entertaining and she loved it. Legendary architect Bill Booziotis had done a redesign and expansion in the early 1990s. But it was a closet that sold the house. Well, that, and all the space. The present owner told me, “Everyone can go to their own corner and has privacy. And the closet space is incredible!”

Russell Buchanan designed the 756-square-foot pool house, of this Bluffview Estate, winning the 2006 Design Award from the Dallas chapter of the AIA. The pool was installed by Pool Environments and is perfectly symmetrical, matching the dimensions of the house.

If you are new to Dallas, Bluffview is one of those neighborhoods that attract celebrities and politicians that want privacy. Homes are set into decent-sized acreage, your neighbors are neighborly but respect privacy and don’t name-drop. It’s easy to entertain discreetly here. The streets are wide, so valet parkers have no problem. It’s also not surprising to see homes pass from generation to generation or to see kids who grew up here return to raise their own children. It’s just that kind of neighborhood.

The seller told me she will miss the environment. “There is a lot of life and nature surrounding this house. You are always looking out a window into something pretty. We have loved this house!”

Emily Summers did the interior design for the pool house.

“This house is special to me,” Compass listing agent Elly Holder said. ” It’s the perfect blend of the original design with two great architects beautifully enhancing it and making it their own.”

Holder and Gretchen Brasch have this Bluffview estate at 5036 Seneca Drive listed for $4.3 million.
