No car week? Try no car life! I have not owned a car in the last 3-plus years and I do just fine. We do just fine. I am the proud mother of an 11-month-old who I affectionately term the #officialDARTbaby. We have saved thousands of dollars in car payments, insurance, maintenance, registration, inspection, and gas. Our primary mode of transportation is the DART rail, bus, D-Link, M-Line Trolley, and now Uber when in a pinch for time.
So what are you afraid of? I gave two private, guided tours on the DART train last Friday and realized the main reason people don’t try it is for fear of getting lost. I helped a single mom learn how to get from her apartment to work so she can avoid paying exorbitant fees in Downtown parking. And I helped a mother of four learn how to get to the grocery store and back. It’s not scary, so why do we avoid it? Sometimes we just need our hand held and that’s okay. I am offering a free guided tour this week during #carlessdfw. I’ll show you how simple the system is. Anywhere you want to go. Heck, let’s use the TRE and head to Fort Worth!
On Tuesday I had to be in Uptown by 8:40 a.m. for a dentist appointment, so I used the M-Line. Then I headed back Downtown to show an apartment at 10:45 a.m. (I am a real estate broker and apartment locator, and the expert in downtown apartment living.) Back to the hectic schedule — after my apartment showing in Downtown, I had a 12 p.m. tax preparation appointment in Irving. Orange line it is! Then I needed to come back home and take the dog out. You can find me at Main Street Garden around 3 p.m. Last appointment of the day was a focus study at One Lincoln Centre near LBJ and the Dallas North Tollway. That will take a combination of train and bus.
The point is, it can be done. And why put it off any longer? Join me in #carlessdfw week. Put your two feet to work. I’m serious about the free guided tour, too! If you have ever wanted to learn the DART system, call me (214) 296-9679 or email [email protected].
I lived car free for 2 years in Dallas. Not once did I ever wish I had a car or in any way feel inconvenienced by not having one. If you live anywhere near downtown and have a desk job, car free (or at the least, car light) life in Dallas is very feasible and enjoyable for reasons too many to list.
Glad to hear it Mike!
Cheers to you, Ashley! I am car-free, too. I agree that many people may just be fearful of getting lost; your guided tours are a great idea! I might have to join you sometime. Congratulations on your busy, and car-free, lifestyle.
Thanks Trey!! You are more than welcome to join on a tour. The baby and I have a blast.
I love using DART to DFW. It takes you right to terminal A. Love it!
Awesome Hanne. Next time I fly I will try it.
I have never used lyft but did download the app last week since they were offering 10 free rides worth up to $20 each. Nice overlap with #carlessdfw
Barrett, you’ll fall in love with Lyft. Try it this weekend!
