Personal taste is such a funny thing. When it comes to gorgeous homes I can’t afford, I feel like my personal taste swings wildly in all directions, and regardless of how different one house can be from the last luxury love affair, I still picture myself moving in.
With my affinity for Craftsman bungalows, modern architecture, and Texas prairie homes, why, oh why am I in love with 7210 Lakewood? The Clifford Hutsell-designed estate doesn’t even remotely fit into any of these categories, and yet there I am, trying to find a spot for my brass-footed dining table and my reading chair.
Not many folks can afford to move into a stunning Lakewood abode when they’re just starting out. And of course, you have to start somewhere, right? Because I prefer wide open floorplans and more sleek finishes, I tend to dislike most Tudors. Sure, there’s plenty of character and lots of charm, but the small rooms tend to make me feel claustrophobic.
However — HOWEVER! — I think I found the Tudor of my dreams. This gem feels cozy, not claustrophobic. I want to curl up in every room and open a good book! And there’s a wonderful studio/guesthouse in the backyard, perfect for someone who needs a home office.
I was looking over this adorable listing, 5737 Palo Pinto in the Belmead area of Lakewood, and it reminded me of something. Still, I couldn’t put my finger on it. The teal paint and umbrella, the landscaping, and the clean accents were calling from somewhere else, somewhere much more tropical. And then it hit me … it’s 100 percent Conch Republic style!
