Remember when Fort Worth wasn’t a very walkable city?  It wasn’t that long ago — maybe a decade or so ago — when there were very few options for lock-and-leave dwellings, urban townhomes, or properties in an area of Cowtown that were walkable.

Walkable?  What am I talking about here?

You Dallas people know what I’m talking about.  Areas in the city where it’s safe and secure and possible to take a few steps out of your front door and within a few minutes on foot you can be at a local pub, shop, restaurant, or place of entertainment.

Walkable. Urban. Accessible. Mass Transit.

Did I miss any buzzwords that might have tipped you off that today’s Thursday Three Hundred is right in the middle of a very shoe-leather-friendly area?

When I think “walkable” and “Dallas,” I automatically think of the State Thomas area. It’s a fantastic neighborhood just south of Uptown that is super close to the Arts District and on the cusp of everything you want in an inner city setting. Wide sidewalks, patios, mass transit, shopping and dining — State Thomas is perfect.

Of course, this neighborhood has a reputation for being stuffed to the gills with historic buildings, but let me tell you, there are some fantastic modern properties to be seen, and this loft is one of them.

SamsCityplaceWhile I was in West Virginia, I read Steve Brown’s report that a Sam’s was coming to Uptown East at Cityplace, courtesy of Trammell Crow. I thought maybe I had altitude sickness or something. Total head scratcher. Here I have been interviewing builders and developers on how Uptown development is splashing over east of central, where we are starting to see some great multi-family developments taking shape close in to the urban core.  They are even starting to call this area “Uptown East.”
