Lake Highlands home

Kelsey Faires of Rogers Healy and Associates gave us the heads up to this newly remodeled two-story Lake Highlands home with nearly 4,000 square feet of contemporary style for $869,000. The 1964-built home with five bedrooms, four and half-baths, and 3,965 square feet was taken down to the studs for this complete remodel that includes a one year builder’s warranty.  (more…)

Nancy Highers has done it again! The Highers Group Realty agent just listed another Lake Highlands home and it’s a beauty. The 1960s ranch shines with a whole new look. This includes a bright white exterior, wood accents, and inviting curb appeal surrounded by mature trees. But what’s inside has us excited.

As more and more homes in Lakewood get a “glow up,” so are we educated on the builders in East Dallas that not only manage sites responsibly and work with the neighborhood, but also those that produce incredibly well-built homes. At the intersection of those two qualities, we found Mark Dann of Highland Classic Homes.

Dann is a mainstay in the White Rock Lake area. With 35 years in the business and 14 years at the helm of Highland Classic, it’s easy to see that his experience has generated a well-deserved following and a few awards, too. For those reasons, we’re pleased as punch to give our readers an inside look into what makes the Mark Dann and Highland Classic Homes a brand you can trust in our Dallas Builders Association Member Spotlight.

Get to know Mark as the CandysDirt.com highlights some of the spectacular members of Dallas Builders Association right here, asking these consummate professionals all about their business as a way to brag on the many quality, trustworthy builders in the North Texas area that can count themselves among their peers in the Dallas Builders Association.

It’s not something you expect to find on a buyer’s list of “must haves,” but this backyard is the perfect site for an epic Easter egg hunt.

Our privilege, as adults, is to turn the tables on Easter. You see, when I was growing up as the youngest of five kids in a Houston suburb, Easter was the morning of a humidity-soaked blood sport, when all five of us kids would careen through my parents’ sizable and heavily treed backyard in an effort to snatch the most Easter eggs from the most bizarre places. Bird feeders, tree limbs, fence posts — all were fair game. Afterward, we’d get dressed in our Easter togs and head to church. When we’d return home, my father would take the hard-boiled-and-pastel-dyed eggs and make a rainbow-colored potato salad to go with our Easter ham. The boasting of who snatched the most Easter eggs continued through the day.

So maybe your shift as the Easter bunny won’t be as competitive as it was when I was growing up, but our Inwood National Bank Home of the Week is perfect for hunting Easter eggs as it has a fantastic side yard and backyard on more than a third of an acre, complete with a pool! In fact, Jenny Capritta, listing agent for 9512 Milltrail Drive, says that this property is an Easter egg all in itself as it is rare to find a Lake Highlands Home with such a sizable lot and a pool.

Lake Highlands Home Tour

The Lake Highlands Home Tour is coming up on Saturday, and as a veteran of home tours, I can tell you this one is a must not miss. Here is a sneak peek at a storybook cottage you’ll never forget.

Emily Hewett has been an interior designer for 17 years. As the owner of A Well-Dressed Home, she knows full well what a home tour entails because she’s helped plenty of clients prep for them. So, hats off to Hewett, as she still volunteered to be on the tour!

The Hewett’s home was built in Lakewood in the 1940s and moved to 7915 Forest Trail in Lake Highlands sometime in the 1970s. For someone to make that sort of effort to save a home makes us love it even more.

There are as many reasons to love Lake Highlands as there are people who live in this East Dallas neighborhood, and the annual Lake Highlands Home Tour will show off a wonderful cross-section of these beautiful houses and the families who treasure the neighborhood. The March 30 event, which runs from 1 to 5 p.m., will showcase seven incredible specimens of architectural diversity you can explore, including an incredible modern home designed by the late, much-loved builder Tom Greico.

If you don’t yet have your tickets, we’re here to offer an inside look at the tour that will have you scrambling for your credit card number. And if that’s not enough, make room in your schedule for the auction benefit that evening at Oak Highlands brewery from 7 to 10 p.m., with food and beer from Dog Haus Biergarten and wind from WineShop at Home. You can snag an all-inclusive ticket to both the tour and auction for $45, or you can enjoy just the tour, which is priced at $20 per person with complimentary drinks served at each tour stop. Proceeds from the tour go to the Lake Highlands Area Early Childhood PTA, which supports programming at Lake Highlands-area schools.

You can buy tickets here, or you can try your luck here at CandysDirt.com as we’ll be giving away a pair of tickets to this home tour next week! Stay tuned!
