This has been a very exciting week for Guardian Mortgage Company. The 51 year old, Plano-based mortgage firm was celebrating up north as it expanded its Michigan footprint with the grand opening of its Troy location on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

This marks Guardian Mortgage Company’s second Michigan location—with the first in Grand Blanc—and the tenth across the country. Guardian currently operates offices in Grand Blanc, Michigan; El Paso, Plano, Arlington, Richardson and San Antonio, Texas; Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Scottsdale, Arizona. Several more offices throughout Texas, Arizona and Colorado are slated to open later this year. We wanted to find Guardian’s secret sauce: how can the company be making such great strides in the shadow of all the new federal regulation?

We grabbed executive vice president Marcus McCue, to ask, after saying super duper congrats on the huge swath of success you are taking!

CD: Marcus, we are so happy for you and your expansion! Curious, with TILA RESPA Integrated Disclosure or TRID, you guys are killing it! Have those new rules not slowed you down? (more…)

The national housing market remains strong, and Texas, in many respects, is leading the way with record existing-home sales in Dallas and robust price growth.

Some housing experts were surprised at just how vigorous the Texas housing market was last year. Sales and prices set records in Dallas, and new home construction in the state was the most robust it’s been in several years.

The global oil price slump presents some headwinds, however, and will challenge housing markets in some Texas regions this year. Houston, South Texas and Midland-Odessa already have felt the pinch from low oil prices, and layoffs in the energy sector have begun to ripple through other business sectors.

James Gaines, chief economist for the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University, noted in a recent report that job losses in the energy industry haven’t stopped and likely will pick up this year. But growth in other industries such as healthcare, technology, business services, construction, and hospitality should help buoy the state’s economy.

Do you use both sides of your brain? This month’s Guardian Angel Ricky Phillips does. Not only does he love the problem-solving, number-crunching aspect of being a mortgage officer, but he’s also deeply smitten with the color-coordinating, detail-minding aspect of owning his own interior design business.

Methinks that Phillips would be a great one-stop-shop for first-time homebuyers as they find just the right loan for their dream home and just the right decor, too.

It’s that kind of attentiveness and creativity that makes the professionals at Guardian Mortgage stand out in the crowd. Jump to find out more about Phillips and how he helps people live their dreams in both of his professions.

Some people ask us why we think Guardian Mortgage is such a great company. There are lots of reasons, but it’s hard to articulate them when you haven’t worked as closely with the entire staff as Brian McCary has. It actually took leaving for another company for McCary to see what makes Guardian so great, and it was a pleasure to hear it from the horse’s mouth, so to speak.

This month’s Guardian Angel started his career in the mortgage industry at Guardian only to leave the company and then return. It’s that varied experience and Guardian’s company culture that shows why this mortgage business is able to attract top talent all over the Dallas-Fort Worth region and beyond.

Read on for more about Brian McCary, a family man and dedicated mortgage professional at Guardian Mortgage.

Since 1988, Marcia F. Phillips has been at the helm of Guardian Mortgage Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Strategic Growth Bancorp Incorporated. But it’s an end of an era as Phillips has retired from those positions and will become Vice Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors.

“Marcie Phillips, along with Cari McCue, the Company’s Chief Operating Officer, and Marcus McCue, Executive Vice President of Business Development, have been instrumental in developing one of the strongest corporate cultures in the rapidly changing mortgage origination and servicing industry,” said William D. Sanders, chairman of the Guardian Mortgage Board of Directors in a news release. “Every Guardian Mortgage colleague knows that providing service to the Company’s clients before, during and after the mortgage origination process is their most important responsibility. Marcie’s day-to-day involvement will be missed, but we will have her advice and counsel on an ongoing basis as Vice Chairman of the Board.”

Russell Anderson

Russell Anderson will fill Phillips’ shoes as the new president and CEO of Guardian. Anderson, a 30-year veteran of the mortgage industry, has extensive experience in home finance and mortgage companies, and will use that acumen to push Guardian forward as a national player in the industry.

“In a short time, I have developed a genuine respect for the entire Guardian Mortgage team, for Marcie Phillips, and the Company’s strong business culture,” Anderson said. “Guardian Mortgage celebrated its 50th anniversary earlier this year; I am excited to have the opportunity to lead Guardian Mortgage into its second half century.”With a solid leadership team in place, Phillips looks forward to her new role.

“I have been honored to be part of Guardian Mortgage for more than 39 years” Phillips said. “We have built a company that has integrity at the center of everything we do, and I am confident that Russ, Cari, and Marcus will continue that philosophy. As Vice Chairman, I look forward to watching the Company intelligently grow into a national enterprise and offering my thoughts, advice, and guidance as needed.”
