Lavish

The IIDA will host its fourth bi-annual Lavish event, which benefits Dwell with Dignity. This year’s theme is Dallas neighborhoods, but previous events have centered around culinary, gemstones, and trend-setting cities around the world (Photos courtesy IIDA).

Flexing that creative muscle is something the designers belonging to the International Interior Design Association do daily — after all, creating spaces that reflect a company or homeowner’s personal style (and often budget) requires a fair amount of inspiration.

So it’s little wonder that when the Dallas City Center council began crafting its fundraising effort for Dwell with Dignity that the biggest component would be a celebration of creativity.

And the organization’s fourth bi-annual Lavish, which will be held at 6 p.m. on May 11 at the 2616 Commerce Events Center,  is just that. (more…)

Woodson extGreat story in yesterday’s Dallas Morning News (and also SportsDay.com) about 12 season Dallas Cowboys defensive back Darren Woodson, who recently bought a home in the northern stretches of Preston Hollow. (Yeah, yeah I know it’s not the “real” Preston Hollow, but it’s nearby.) I loved reading how Darren grew up pretty dang poor in West Phoenix, essentially father-less, how his mother worked two jobs to support her four children and give them the best home she could afford. I also LOVE the story of how his mom worked at the courthouse, became friendly with police, who then helped keep an eye on her sons. It takes a Village to raise kids these days, eyes everywhere… and sounds like Mrs. Woodson was a pretty spectacular mom.

“We were all on the star, and he was talking about the history of this organization and representing that star,” Woodson said Sunday. “I remember looking up and seeing those names – Roger Staubach, Bob Lilly, Lee Roy Jordan — so many great names that were associated with the star. I dreamt one day that hopefully I can get up there.”

And there he is! I hope the Woodson’s are very pleased with their latest nest because it is STUNNING. Almost as stunning as Darren Woodson’s amazing life:

Woodson extDarren Woodson recently picked up a stunning new home built by The Hill Group with clean lines and walls of glass dubbed an “architecturally detailed farmhouse”. The home is located on Boca Raton west of Preston, Boca being one of my favorite silly street names: Mouth of the Rat! Silly, but not the worst name. The worst street name I have ever heard is my own son’s address in California: Alameda de las Pulgas or Street of the fleas! My God, we had fleas once and it was not pretty. Why anyone would think fleas are a suitable name for a street, which is actually a pretty street on the Peninsula.

I digress, sorry. So on June 15 the Woodson’s picked up this beauty, paid about $1.8 for complete new construction. The walls of glass have views of the .38 acre’s mature trees and large green backyard.
