Before there ever was a pink mansion on Douglas Avenue, Mary Kay Ash and her husband, Mel Ash, conscripted modernist architect Frank L. Meier to design a home for them. The site — a private, picturesque lake in Preston Hollow — was the perfect place to craft reality from a dream.

That dream was for a welcoming, beautiful structure that was perfect for hosting all sorts of gatherings — a well-rounded home. Literally.

In fact, that’s what makes 7246 Lupton Circle — our High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters at Caliber Home Loans — so very unique. Its design takes every advantage of the lake and lot, with a circular design that flows perfectly from one room to the next. Add in the delicious light from the glass-domed ceiling in the center of the home, and you have magic in the making.

The home at 2906 Shadow Drive in Arlington is modern architecture at its finest. (Photos: Matt Ross, MLS Images)

The home at 2906 Shadow Drive has to be the winner of the “2017 CandysDirt.com Most Interesting Home Award.”

OK, so I made up that award, but if it did exist, I would give it to this work of art in a split second. I have to be honest: When I received a request to feature a home in Arlington, I did not expect to find a spectacular home in the modernist style of architecture.

The lot is characterized by rocky outcroppings with dogwood trees where hawks nest; the buildings have been designed to showcase this magnificent natural setting.  In the main house, four separate pavilions on two levels are connected by breezeways which can be opened or closed to the exterior by automated glass doors.

Expansive decks and floor-to-ceiling windows are other features that bring in the light and views that make this contemporary lake house a unique retreat on Lake Texoma.

It has two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half bathroom, and 1,262 square feet, built in 1985. The tony location is just blocks from the West Village, Katy Trail, and Cole Park.

It was listed June 17 by Faisal Halum with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty for $375,000. Monthly HOA fees are $320 and include blanket insurance, exterior maintenance, gas, management fees, sprinkler system, trash, and water/sewer.

The answer: AMAZINGLY. Fans of contemporary architecture will love this classic 1980s home that takes full advantage of the gorgeous views from its hilltop perch near White Rock Lake.
