Inside Castle Hills, the Lewisville Community Designed to Feel Like Its Own Town

Castle Hills is an award-winning, master-planned community in Lewisville, a suburb about 25 miles north of downtown Dallas, off State Highway 121.

But to hear Denton County developer Chris Bright describe it, it's “a contemplative piece of the human private space.”

Since the first residents moved into the Bright Realty development in 1998, the community has grown on roughly 2,900 acres to more than 4,300 homes across single-family, townhome, condo, and estate homes in Enchanted Hill. Homes in Castle Hills span a range of styles and sizes, with starting prices typically from the high-$200,000s into the mid-$1 million+ range, depending on size, finishes, builder, and micro-location within the community.

Early Beginnings of Castle Hills

The Bright family acquired the land that became Castle Hills beginning in 1952, but it wasn't for development. It was the Bright Family Farm, which legendary land developer “Bum” Bright, former owner of the Dallas Cowboys, pieced together by 1966 for family recreational getaways. Chris Bright, with his brother Clay, spent summers and weekends at the farmland that was used for hunting, fishing, camping, and searching for fossils.

Today, the natural beauty of the area is still a defining feature of Castle Hills, with dozens of parks, green spaces, hike-and-bike trails, community pools, playgrounds, sports courts, several lakes, a community garden, and thousands of shade trees planted throughout. Every home is within walking distance of a park or open space. Catch-and-release fishing is allowed in the 12-acre park and lake area, and mature landscaping, ponds, quaint bridges, and planned streetscapes create a cohesive environment.

A Community-Centric Life

With events and social programming, there's something to do year-round in Castle Hills. Annual traditions include an Easter egg hunt, July 4th Freedom Festival with parade and fireworks, a Fall Festival with a pumpkin patch, and the Holiday in the Plaza tree-lighting celebration. Resident welcome events and periodic social gatherings further foster neighborhood engagement.

But this is not just a place to live. An interactive fountain and outdoor entertainment plaza anchor Castle Hills Village Shops & Plaza, which serves as a centralized mixed-use destination with dining, retail, and community programming. It features an interactive fountain and outdoor entertainment spaces, hosting free outdoor movie nights, family game nights, live music, variety shows, and educational presentations throughout the year.

The Realm and Crown Centre Push Growth Forward

Future developments will bring even more options to Castle Hills. The Realm at Castle Hills is a 324-acre mixed-use development where residents can live, play, dine, shop, and work. Current phases include multifamily residences, a nine-story Class A office building, and retail space. Future plans envision hundreds of additional multifamily units, expanded office and retail space, and a boutique hotel.

Crown Centre at Castle Hills — a separate mixed-use node — is planned to include multifamily, office, hotel, retail, and open space, representing some of the final undeveloped acreage within the community.

Location That Works for Commuters

Castle Hills’ location on SH 121 creates easy access to nearby cities Plano, Frisco, Allen, and McKinney to the east and Carrollton, Irving, and Valley Ranch to the west. DFW International Airport is about a 15-minute drive to the southwest. Major employment centers and corporate headquarters within a short commute include Toyota Motor North America, Liberty Mutual, FedEx, JPMorgan Chase, and other regional employers.
