By Candy Evans / May 28, 2013 /

This is a really cute house. Three bedrooms, two baths, 2100 square feet plus. Built in 1983, it was completely renovated in 2007, yielding trowel-textured walls and hand-scraped wood floors; fine designer finishes and Prairie Creek Elementary ye haw! The owners also really went all out for space age type appliances. There is an Advantium Speedcook…

Steve Brown via Redfin: About One-Third of Dallas Homes Have Buyers Within Two Weeks of Hitting the Market

By Candy Evans / May 22, 2013 /

I think that we have been preaching this here on CD ever since about January. Steve Brown reports that “more than 20 percent of the Dallas-area properties which were listed for sale in April had a contract in one week or less.” We are hot, in fact, one of the hottest residential real estate markets…

Another Reason to Rethink Fracking: Even The Threat of Shale Gas Wells Tanks Propert Values 20 to 24 Percent

By Joanna England / May 22, 2013 /

Business Insider listed the top nine things that can cripple or kill home values, and fracking (hydraulic fracturing) was listed among foreclosure graveyards, hoarding, sex offenders, and poorly performing schools as one of the top problems that tank home values. They make great tornado shelters. We had regular bomb drills to cover our…

Remember the Roy’s Transmission and Autocare Saga in Bishop Arts? Well, Looks Like Roy’s Struck a $375K Deal with Our Tax Dollars

By Candy Evans / May 21, 2013 /

Last December I had my hissy fit about Roy’s Transmission & Autocare at 138 W. Davis. The shop lies splat in the center of the city’s plans to create a cute million dollar plus plaza and streetcar stop at Zang and Seventh. Basically, Roy Smith has been fixing cars at this location for 18 years. The city wants to buy Smith’s tire shop property to build a way cool entrance to Bishop Arts, including a children’s playground. Smith has no objections except the green kind: he wants to be paid enough money to relocate and get another business. Last year, he said he had his property appraised at $775,000 when the city offered him “only” about $205,000.
