New Dallas Love Field Viewing Spot Gives Plane Watchers a Front-Row Seat

The reviews are already in for the Dallas Love Field Observation Area, and they’re glowing.
“It’s a five out of five!!!” said an excited Raeydon Ramsey, a young airplane enthusiast who attended the ribbon cutting of the Dallas Love Field Observation Area this past Saturday. His father agreed. “I think it’s awesome,” Kevin Ramsey said. “I think it’s a great way to expand the love of aviation.”
“This is such a wonderful day,” said District 6 Councilperson Laura Cadena. “The goal of the Lemmon Avenue Streetscape Project is to improve the quality of life for those who work and live by Dallas Love Field.”
Along with nearby neighborhoods, the more than 17 million visitors who use Dallas Love Field will also get to enjoy the beautification efforts, Cadena said.
The observation area, located at the end of George Coker Circle off of Lemmon Avenue, was the final part of the overall Lemmon Avenue Streetscape Project that needed to be completed.
Lemmon Avenue Streetscape Project Concludes
Started in 2020, the six-year project transformed Lemmon Avenue from Shorecrest Drive to Mockingbird Lane and into the airport entrance. The streetscape comes as part of the most recent airport master plan update.
The transformation of Lemmon Avenue has entailed more than 200 trees being planted, a completely renovated Midway Manor Park and basketball court, intersection improvements, and connecting Bachman Lake Park to walking paths and trails so it is easier for residents in nearby neighborhoods to access all the amenities by walking or biking along a trail.
Also completed is the Primary Gateway feature, which is located on the grassy triangle between Lemmon Avenue, Mockingbird Lane, and Airdrome Drive. The beautification of the triangle is a noticeable improvement for neighboring communities and anyone heading to or leaving Dallas Love Field.
Along Lemmon Avenue, sculptures have been installed at the corner of Lemmon Avenue and Lovers Lane as well as Lemmon Avenue and Shorecrest Drive.
Observation Area Bringing Enjoyment to Youngsters
“This is heaven on earth,” said Mary Erwin, a Plano resident who made a point to attend the ribbon cutting with her son, Ash. Ash is a huge airplane enthusiast.
“We spend every weekend at airports,” Erwin said. “There is a whole community of aviation kids” that will enjoy the new observation area. “This is the one that gives us the closest access” to planes landing and taking off.
Looking toward the future, Ash, whose photos and videos of planes landing and taking off can be found on TikTok @Dallas.spotter, has already set his sights on taking flying lessons and becoming a pilot.
“We were so, so excited,” about the opening of the observation area, she said. “I feel like this was built specifically for him.”
