Bespoke Oak Lawn Condo Has Award-Winning Architectural Pedigree for an Unbelievable Price

There are lots of fun and unique condos to be found in the Oak Lawn area, but when you start to use words like “spectacular” and “inspired,” that list gets shorter. Throw in “designed by an architect,” and the list becomes really short. Now add “multiple award-winning,” and you’re likely left with one. That would be the subject of this week’s Highlight Home of the Week, sponsored by Lisa Peters, Senior Financial Officer with First Horizon.
The architect in question is award-winning Dallas architect Russell Buchanan, and the condo is unit A in “Envelope,” a Buchanan project at the corner of Bowser and Throckmorton in Oak Lawn. The contemporary condominium was the winner of awards from both the local and state American Institute of Architects, and another award from Architecture magazine as the Multi-Family House of the Year.

“Russell Buchanan is one of the most important architects currently practicing in Dallas,” said listing agent David Griffin of David Griffin & Company Realtors.
Unit A is one of three in the building on the front corner, and it’s the only unit with a balcony overlooking rows of bald cypresses. “These are one of a kind,” said Griffin. “You can’t find this anywhere else.”
What is “this” that Griffin speaks of? Well, it’s a developer that took the time and expense to have an architect involved with the project all the way through. We’ve said many times at CandysDirt.com that an architect-built home makes all the difference, because it’s simply true.
“It’s the kind of space that’s hard to achieve unless you have an architect imposing proportions and design,” said Griffin. “And that’s just not something you find in a condo all that often.”

The home is laid out over three floors. The first floor comprises an entry and the garage, and on the second floor, you find the main living space, and what a space it is. With ten-foot ceilings and plenty of natural light, the space feels delightfully open and airy. Oak hardwood flooring creates an elegant anchor for beautiful art lighting.

Despite the urban, walkable location, it feels like you’re living in the treetops with those lovely cypress trees at window level — and they create such interesting light in the space as well. On the other side of the space is the spacious dining area, and you can see that the huge picture window is frosted, creating an entirely different kind of light on this side.

The kitchen is stunning — one of my favorites of late. The waterfall island has a recessed eat-in feature with lots of storage on the interior. Built-in appliances include a Liebherr refrigerator-freezer, a six-burner Bertazzoni stove and oven, a Bosch dishwasher, and a wine fridge.

Also on the second floor is this cool powder room and a utility room. The simple beauty of this powder room just gets me, I don’t know.

Upstairs you find two bedrooms and two baths, including the primary suite, which is quite spacious. In the images, you can see the trees in two seasons, both in winter and when they’re full and green. If you reference the image of the building above, you can see the balcony from the outside as well. It feels like a lovely, peaceful spot. The primary bath features marble appointments and double vanities.

For a condominium, this home feels very bespoke — it’s tailor-made, detailed, designed.
“It’s almost development for art’s sake, which you don’t find very often,” said Griffin.
The Oak Lawn neighborhood is fantastic, easily walkable to shopping, dining, coffee, and workouts. It’s rare to find this caliber of award-winning design at this price point.
David Griffin has 4001 Bowser Ave #A listed for $660,000.
Open House this Saturday, February 7, 1 – 3pm.
