For those of you who did not have to suffer through Latin classes, a magnum opus means a great work. This Preston Hollow New Classical residence is definitely a great work. The one-acre estate hits the market today courtesy of Compass Realtor Jonathan Rosen, and it sets a new standard for luxury in Dallas.

I’ve been noticing a significant classical influence in residential luxury architecture recently, and this Preston Hollow New Classical home is an excellent example of the shift. Although the blending of classic and contemporary design elements is not a novel concept, there is a renewed emphasis on craftsmanship and quality that, while often subtle, is also substantial.
Residential architecture based on classicism continues to stand the test of time because it is both foundational and functional. While it’s not surprising that it’s making a comeback, it is a delight to see the influence having an impact once again.
Of course, impact is to be expected when you pull together a team like this. The home was a collaboration between builder Mark L. Rose, Curtis Burblaw Architects, and Richard Drummond Davis Architects. Rosen told me that the home was a custom build that was never expected to be on the market. However, it’s Dallas, and even the best-laid plans can change quickly in real estate, which means opportunity awaits!

“The home was in development for three years,” Rosen said. “The level of detail is bar none. Every return you walk through is three-foot limestone. It’s one of the nicest houses I’ve ever seen.”
Remember, Rosen sells a lot of luxury property, so that’s quite a statement!

The main residence is 15,749 square feet, featuring six bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms. There is also a 2,865-square-foot private guest house with three additional bedrooms and bathrooms. The home has soundproof walls and was engineered to a level rarely seen in residential construction (it was a custom build after all).

When we get to the pretty parts, everything is equally flawless. There are floating staircases with solid brass accents, custom Lutron lighting, Ann Sacks tile, and, of course, a Savant home automation system.
“All the floors are quarter-sawn white oak,” Rosen said. “There are custom steel doors and windows, and Il Granito sourced and installed the luxury marble work.”
You will find Miele, Wolf, and Sub-Zero packages in the main kitchen, the catering kitchen, and the bar, as well as the gym, game room, media suite, and guest house.

The home exceeds luxury standards outside as well as inside. There is a full outdoor kitchen with covered living spaces, a beautiful fire pit, and a dramatic three-sided negative-edge pool.

And then there is the garage situation. Any car collector will be right at home in this Preston Hollow New Classical, as it features not only a two-car attached garage but also a climate-controlled car gallery with capacity for over 20 vehicles.

“I think people are expecting a designed feel, a higher end, and elevated finish out at a custom level now,” Rosen said. “The quality, finishes, and details here are so timeless and elegant, and the home has such a presence. It’s really beyond comparison in Dallas’ luxury landscape.”
Rosen has this magnum opus, New Classical estate at 1 Dorset Place available for $22.995 million.
