Why Do We Love East Dallas? Let’s Start With This Lakewood Heights Tudor

Once you move to East Dallas, it’s darned hard to leave. I know this because I landed here a few decades ago, and you couldn’t tempt me to live anywhere else in this city. I’m an East Dallas lifer, and many of us are, thanks to beautiful homes like this historic Lakewood Heights Tudor. It’s these neighborhoods with charm, character, and a real identity that keep us happily in place.

Lakewood Heights has beautiful Tietze Park as its centerpiece. It’s also incredibly walkable. You can get anywhere you need to in about 10 minutes. That was a major factor for Andrew and Leighton Wright when they were house hunting in 2021.
“I believe location is more important than anything,” Andrew said. “We are less than a mile from Lower Greenville and great restaurants like Một Hai Ba. I could get to my office in Uptown in 12 minutes and bike to White Rock Lake in eight minutes. That’s pretty magical for me. I strongly believe there are not very many blocks in Dallas as great as ours. We really have the best of all worlds.”

Andrew and Leighton were just about to get married when they spotted their charming 1928 Lakewood Heights Tudor complete with leaded stained glass windows. Andrew works in commercial real estate, so he was wise to the market and knew it was the right time to buy. They closed 12 days before the wedding, went on their honeymoon, came home, and got to work! They tackled the major work on their 1,855-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom Tudor before moving in.

The Wrights put heart and soul into their Lakewood Heights Tudor because they planned on staying awhile. After all, the neighborhood is zoned to Geneva Heights Elementary, which was completely reimagined while preserving the original 1931 facade. The work was done so well that Preservation Dallas gave the school its coveted Preservation Achievement Award this year.
A perfectly remodeled, move-in-ready, charming home in a great neighborhood with a great school is quite the find! If it were not for a great job offer in Austin, the Wrights would still be enjoying biking to White Rock Lake and walking to coffee at La La Land Kind Cafe. The good news is that now you have an opportunity to enjoy that lifestyle!
