Inside a Contemporary Northaven Home With a Backyard Feature You Don’t See Often in Dallas

I’ve driven past this house on Northaven more times than I can count, and every time I wonder how they fit so much fun into one property. Turns out, nearly an acre helps in this beautiful enclave, known for its estate-sized homes. Hillcrest Estates has quite a “Little Black Book” of residents, from yours truly to Malcolm Holland, who just sold Veritex bank for $1.9 billion. But if you’ve ever cruised this area north of Preston Hollow, you might’ve missed it — of course, that’s exactly the point.

The home at 6766 Northaven Rd. is a contemporary, custom-built residence that is practically brand new. In fact, I remember watching it being built about four years ago. Though it borders busy Hillcrest Road, the plethora of mature trees native to this neighborhood, plus smart landscaping, create a private 0.94-acre retreat. That’s exactly what Hillcrest Estates is known for, as much as it has become a haven for gorgeous contemporary estates that take the edge on style.

From the street, you’ll see the home’s sleek elevation immediately. The entrance signals a different approach to haute moderne architectural design. The home is a curated mix of stone, stucco, steel, and glass — combined with clean lines and asymmetry — all giving the façade a distinctly modern edge.

But this isn’t a cold glass box. Once inside those mammoth pivot glass doors, the 4,437-square-foot layout is warm, open, and designed with a definite family vibe.

First off, yes — take full advantage of the abundant nature outside. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the main living area that’s anchored by a sleek fireplace and a floating staircase. This great room overlooks the expansive turfed backyard — so happy they chose turf. It’s a private retreat complete with everything you want in a backyard, but more on that in a bit.

The kitchen is a standout — as functional as it is beautiful. It’s anchored by a large eat-in island and includes a built-in Sub-Zero refrigerator, double Wolf gas range, dual ovens, sleek built-in cabinetry, and a unique glass-encased wine display that feels equal parts showpiece and practical storage.

The adjacent dining area features picture-perfect windows, each with direct sightlines to the backyard.

The home’s primary suite is also located on the first floor — a smart move, especially on a property with a backyard of this size. You can just slide open the glass doors to a spacious covered patio and expansive turfed lawn, with the pool and spa just steps away.

The floors are neither wood nor carpet, and the walls are neither drywall nor plaster — yawn. This is all straight from the quarry: the smooth, polished stone floors and the rough stonework detail of the walls. The primary bedroom includes a sitting area with its own fireplace and a Zen-like bath with dual vanities, a freestanding soaking tub, a separate steam shower, and a custom walk-in closet.

The family bedrooms are upstairs— four with three full bathrooms, following the same smooth stone-centered theme. A large media-game room anchors the second floor, which also includes a unique space I have not seen very often in Dallas. (But I sure have in L.A.!) It’s a fully-covered second-floor exterior garden terrace that spans approximately 1,000 square feet. Created to emulate a private putting green and shaded outdoor lounge, it’s ideal for taking in views of the lush backyard, practicing a few swings or just unwinding after some serious studying. The home has a sport court that can be used for basketball, tennis, or pickleball.

More icing on this very delicious, sleek cake: a three-car garage, smart home wiring, built-in speakers, decorative lighting, and high-end finishes throughout. There’s also an abundance of storage, a smart flow between public and private spaces, and the kind of flexibility that suits everything from young families to multi-generational living to empty nesters who still want room to have fun.

As an owner whose own home is soon to come to market, I cannot say enough about wonderful Hillcrest Estates. In fact, I love it so much that I am staying close by, but more on that to come. I’ve lived in the “honeypot” of Old Preston Hollow, and I have lived in Hillcrest Estates for more than 25 years. The neighborhood is incredibly proximate to top private schools, Preston Royal Village, the spoils of Preston Forest, Cooper Aerobics Center, the Northaven Trail, Central/75 to the east, the Dallas North Tollway to the west, and NorthPark Center just south on Hillcrest.

Laura Michelle of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate has listed 6766 Northaven Rd. for $5.245 million.
