The Only Ju-Nel With A Coveted AIA Award

There are certain homes that basically need to be kept on a watch list. At the top of that list are the exclusive Midcentury Modern designs, specifically those by Lyle Rowley and Jack Wilson, better known as Ju-Nel homes.
This 1961 Ju-Nel in Eastwood Estates is poised to blow off the market by press time because of its impeccable condition. Ju-Nel authority Mark Weeks has dubbed it a Super Ju-Nel due to the meticulous preservation and enhancement of this home. It’s also the only Ju-Nel to receive an award from the American Institute of Architects.

It frankly does not matter what shape a Ju-Nel home is in because the signature open floor plans, floor-to-ceiling windows, vaulted ceilings, and adaptation to the topography are what buyers want today. If you are determined to live in one, you better know the agents that generally get these listings, and you should bookmark his website. Weeks has published 99 of these marvelous Midcentury Moderns on the site and proven the existence of 147 in total. There have only been six losses to demolition out of that count, which is proof of their popularity.
It’s rare for this one to hit the market so soon. I featured it in 2020, and at that time, the home had only been occupied by two families. It was built for George and Betty Rozeburg, then architect Tai Yungjen and his wife Lynn Chiu-Lien Hsu lived here for 27 years. They sold it to Jeremy Witte, who, lucky for you, has just put it on the market after featuring it on the 17th annual White Rock Home Tour last weekend.

Just when we thought this Midcentury Modern could not get any better, Witte surprised us with a sleek, updated black kitchen, which is a beautiful complement to the black fireplace in the open-plan living area.

“I have been in a couple dozen Ju-Nel homes and studied images of all, and I have not found one like this,” Weeks wrote on his website. “The home is unlike any other I have seen.”

One of the unique aspects of the 2,161-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is the original parquet floors. These used to be a regular feature. Over the years, many people covered them up or ripped them out, but these have been kept in pristine condition.

Be sure to check out the open house scheduled on Saturday, May 3, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Weeks has this Super Ju-Nel at 10226 Vinemont St. available for $795,000.
