Grab a bike. Take a walk. Ride a bus. Forget the plastic. And like they said in the groovy 1970s when Earth Day was launched, “Give a hoot; don’t pollute.”
It’s time to celebrate Earth Day 2025 throughout North Texas. Always April 22, Earth Day this year carries the theme “Our Power, Our Planet.”

First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day was estimated to involve 20 million Americans to raise awareness about the environment. Concerns over pollution, oil spills, toxic dumps, wildlife extinction, and food waste brought urban dwellers, farmers, business leaders, college students, and labor groups together to demonstrate for a healthier environment. Caring for the planet was the focus of the day.
The day’s success led to legislative action, such as the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Environmental Protection Agency. The movement continues today with Earth Day activities still annual occurrences, including in North Texas.
How to Celebrate
A variety of activities are planned to recognize Earth Day, some being held well in advance of the official day. The events range from active, physical challenges to more sedate, intellectual sessions with various age groups in mind.

In Oak Cliff, they’re getting an early jump on Earth Day. Have some outdoor fun from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lake Cliff Park, 300 E. Headlining the entertainment will be the Jazz Fusion Ensemble from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Ballet Folklorico, and Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble. Educational exhibitions, plant sales, and food vendors also are planned for this public event.
Children in kindergarten through fifth grade may celebrate Earth Day with a free terrarium-building session from 4 to 5 p.m. April 18 at the Fort Worth Public Library – Wedgwood, 3816 Kimberly Lane. With a little bit of creativity, children will recycle soft drink bottles into separate environments in this hands-on workshop. Earth Day Terrarium – Wedgwood – Welcome to the City of Fort Worth
