Spring Home Maintenance You Can’t Do Yourself

spring home maintenance

Spring home maintenance is important (really all seasonal home maintenance is important), but when you find a problem, it’s often the case that you shouldn’t try to handle it yourself. Some repairs are best left to experts.

Today’s Upon Closer Inspection will look at a few examples of spring home maintenance tasks that revealed themselves to be real issues in need of professional expertise.

Sprinkler Storm

✔ Spring Home Maintenance Task: Check your sprinkler system for leaks and broken heads.

At first glance in this video, it almost appears as if it’s raining. But all that water is actually coming from an underground leak in the sprinkler system. This much leaking from just one section means barely any water is getting through to the other heads, and it can cause damage to the yard.

This underground leak needs to be repaired by a professional sprinkler company, if you want it done correctly and safely, that is.

Electrical Poof!

✔ Spring Home Maintenance Task: Check the electrical panel for tripped breakers, clear away any debris, and look for signs of problems like scorch marks and broken or tangled wires.

In this video, Inspector Alex finds an electrical panel that has obviously had some kind of (poof!) incident. What the homeowner didn’t do, is what you should do if something like this ever occurs in your house. Electrical work is easily one of the most dangerous facets of home maintenance, and catching things early can literally save your home.

If you see something, say something, and call an electrician right away!

Garage Grease

✔ Spring Home Maintenance Task: Garage door maintenance. Cleaning, lubricating moving parts, checking for wear and tear, and testing safety features according to the door’s manual.

In this video, Seth Thomas from Total Garage Solutions explains how to tell when your door spring needs to be replaced, how and where to lubricate the moving parts, and issues that can come up with the mechanisms.

When it comes to garage doors, you want to bring in a professional for the spring or the motor, but you can probably handle the rest yourself. Unless you’re like me, in which case you need to call my husband John. 😂

It’s past time to jump on that spring home maintenance checklist! If you have questions about what to do or run into problems, you can schedule a seasonal maintenance inspection and get answers to all your questions this spring.
